Brake Controller for a 2001 GMC Sierra

Question:

I have a 2001 GMC sierra pickup. It came with a factory towing package. MY Question is do I need to add a brake controller to control my camper trailer with electric brakes.

Expert Reply:

Yes, you will need a brake controller to operate your trailer brakes. For your 2001 GMC Sierra, our most popular brake controller is the Tekonsha Prodigy, part # 90185. You will also need the Brake Controller Wiring Adpater, part # 3025-P. One end of the Adapter plugs into the Prodigy, the other end plugs into the installation port located on the firewall behind the emergency brake pedal. For your convenience, I will provide a link to our GM Truck Brake Controller Install Guide. This Guide includes helpful photos that show the location of the installation port.
