Hitch mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2007 Chevy HHR With a Draw-Tite Hitch

Question:

I would like to purchase a 4-bike hitch mounted carrier for my bikes to go on my 2007 HHR that has a Draw-tite 24756 hitch but I want to make sure it will clear the bumper and not cause any damage? If not is there any other 4-bike mount you would recommend?

The important measurement to keep in mind for picking out a bike rack to go with the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 24756 is the distance from the center of the hitch pin out to the furthest point out on your rear bumper. Luckily, we have had the chance to install the # 24756 on an HHR that is very similar to yours and know that you need 5-1/2 inches of clearance.

You will need to find a bike carrier with a distance that is greater than 5-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin out to the nearest upright portion of the bike rack.

However, you should note that it is not recommended to carry more than 2 bikes when using a hitch mounted bike rack with a Class I hitch. The reason for this is the additional weight and leverage of the third and fourth bikes on the hitch could damage the vehicle frame and/or the hitch.
