Question:
We have a 2008 jeep liberty with the tow package and I want to add a brake controller. I can find the red wire under the left kick area and I understand how to hook up all the wires except for the red wire from the controller which is supposed to attach to the cold side of the stop lamp switch. How do I find that wire in the bundle on the jeep? thanks

Finding the correct wire on the brake switch for a brake controller red wire is pretty easy. You will need a circuit tester like # 3808 if you do not already have one. You will use the circuit tester to probe the wires on the brake switch. The wire you need will show a signal ONLY when the brake pedal is pressed and not at any other time.
If a wire also shows a signal when the head lamps are on or turn signals engaged it is not the correct wire. You need a dedicated brake light wire.
If you need a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885. It is one of our best selling brake controllers because it is easy to set up and easy to use. I have included a link to the installation details for this brake controller as well as an FAQ article on brake controllers.
