7-Way Trailer Wiring Connector for a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 with Factory Tow Package

Question:

I have a 2002 Chevt 1500 Silverado with the factory tow package. I have found that my 7 blade connector is different than other later model years 7 blade connectors. Is there an adapter available to make my 2002 OEM 7 blade compatable with other 7 blade connectors?

First I would need to know how your 7-Way connector is different than newer models. Is if pinned out differently (the pin functions are in different locations between the years) or is it that it connects to the vehicle differently?

If it is the latter, you can use the Pigtail Wiring Harness, # PK11998, with Hopkins Wiring, # HM4097 or # PK11893 You would just need to wire in the bare wire ends of the pigtail to the truck wiring by function. The pigtail uses the following color codes and functions:

Red - Left Turn and Stop
White - Ground
Blue - Electric Brakes
Green - Right Turn and Stop
Black - Battery
Brown - Running Lamps
Yellow - Backup Lamps

Use a circuit tester like # 3808 if needed to determine the functions of the wires on your truck. If the connector is pinned out differently you can just re-arrange the wires at the back of the plug to match the trailer you are towing. Or re-arrange the wires on the trailer 7-Way to match the truck. I have included a link to our wiring FAQ that should help.
