Weight Distribution and Sway Control Recommendation for a 2005 Nissan Xterra and Fun Finder Trailer
Question:
I would like to know which Reese weight distribution + anti sway system you would recommend for my 2005 Nissan Xterra SE 4x4 5,400 lbs GVWR + 18 Fun Finder Travel Trailer A-Frame ~4,000 lbs. when loaded. Also which WD shank would pair with this set up? Thanks in advance for your help.

When choosing a weight distribution system, you will want one with a tongue weight capacity range that encompasses the trailer tongue weight when loaded and ready to tow and the weight of anything in the tow vehicle behind the rear axle (which counts against tongue weight).
For a trailer at 4,000 pounds, the tongue weight at 10 to 15 percent will be 400 to 600 pounds. Based on this, I recommend a system that is designed for 400 to 800 pounds like Strait-Line Weight Distribution System, # RP66087.
This system comes with dual-cam sway control which is a pro-active system that stops trailer sway before it starts. It also comes with a shank so you will not need to buy one separately. You will just need a properly sized ball such as # # 19286 (2-5/16 inch diameter) or # A-90 (2 inch diameter).
I have included a link to the installation details and a link to our FAQ article on weight distribution and sway control for you to view.
