Can a Cargo Box and Kayak be Carried on a 2005 Subaru Outback at the Same Time

Question:

I have a 2005 Subaru Outback. It seems this will fit - however, is there space on the drivers side for a kayak on a rack?

In order to put a Cargo Box, like # A26395, and a kayak on your roof, you will first need to measure the crossbar width on your 2005 Subaru Outback. The cargo box is 23-1/2 inches wide. You will also need to measure the height of the kayak (because it will need to be carried on its side when on the roof).

Add the width of the box and the width of the kayak when on its side. If the sum is less than the usable with of your crossbars then there is a good chance you will be able to carry both. However, additional space will need to be considered for a kayak carrier.

I recommend the Yakima BigStack, # Y04041, as it will take up the least amount of space and will fit the factory Subaru crossbars. I have included a link to the installation details for you.

You will want to make sure the crossbars can accept the mounting hardware of the cargo box. SportRack Aero 1300 Cargo Box will fit on crossbars with a maximum diameter of 4 inches.
