Question:
I will be installing this on a 2004 VW Touareg, I was wondering, since I have a couple of 12vdc ports in the back, do I need to run the hot wire all the way to the positive battery terminal, or can I just disable one of those and use it for the connection? Thanks

When installing a powered converter like # 119176KIT, the manufacturer states that the power wire must be ran to the battery. The power ports or other 12 volt sources use their own, often higher rated fuses. This would allow the trailer wiring to try to draw too much power through the system if there was a short circuit or another problem, which can cause electrical damage.
I have included a link to the installation details and a link to a video showing this wiring harness being installed on a Volkswagen Jetta. Even though the Jetta is different than your Touareg, the installation will be very similar.
