Bike Rack Recommendation for a Toyota Prius with a Class I Trailer Hitch
Question:
I have a Toyota Prius with a class 1 hitch. We ride light weight road bikes. In thedescription it says for use with class 2 hitches but would it work with a class 1 hitch? Current Saris thelma hitch catches so much wind that my mileage really decreases when I use it.

The issue is, a Class I trailer hitch has a stop in it that prevents Class II accessories from being installed. This is a safety feature so that people do not accidentally overload their Class I trailer hitches.
A similar bike rack that is designed for Class I trailer hitches is the BikeWing, # B01311. It has the same basic design, shape, and grips the bikes at the wheels. I have included a link to the installation details and a video review of this rack for you to view.
Another option is a platform style rack like the SportRack, # SR2910. This rack is also compatible with Class I trailer hitches. It features 2 ratcheting hooks that secure the bikes at the frame.
