How Does the Cable Release Lever Lock Prevent Theft on the Thule Raceway 2 Trunk Mount Bike Rack

Question:

Do the cable release levers on both sides of the rack lock? I only see a lock on one side. If the cable release levers only lock on one side is it possible to remove the rack from the car even with the levers locked?

The cable release levers for the Thule Raceway 2 Trunk Mount Bike Rack, # TH9001, only lock at the levers nearest the lock. This is all that is needed because if the bike rack is installed correctly and tightened down, a would-be thief would only be able to manage to get the left side cables off. With the right side cables under tension, the bike rack cannot be pushed up or pulled down enough to get the hooks off.
