What Parts are Needed to Wire a 2007 Ford Escape to Tow a 4-Way Trailer

Question:

I am considering putting a hitch on my 2007 Ford Escape no tow package. Is it possible to custom wire a four-way connector as described above without a modulite or converter? Do the brake and turn signals use a signal wire system on the Escape?

Expert Reply:

On the 2007 Escape, a converter must be used. We offer a custom fit harness, part # 118426, that converts the 4 wire system on the vehicle to a 3 wire system for the trailer. This harness also includes a power line that attaches directly to the vehicle battery. This allows the converter to power the trailer lights with a direct battery feed, rather than drawing power from the Escape tail lights which can be a problem in the event of a short circuit.
