Install Recommendation for the Steel Cable to Secure Bikes to Softride Versa Bike Rack # SR26249

Question:

I cant see from your instructions or video where exactly the security cable attaches at the end nearest the vehicle. Is it to the hitch with a padlock? Using the bolt on the rack with a plastic tube on it? This sort of works but when rack is in horizontal position the cable is pinched tightly and may start to fray during transport. Also anyone with a wrench could remove that bolt and the bikes are no longer secure. Thanks in advance for your help. Anthony.

I spoke with my contact at Softride and he informed me that the steel cable from the Softride Versa Tilting and Folding 2 Bike Rack # SR26249 that you referenced is more or less a user designated feature and can be used as the owner of the rack sees fit, and there is no right or wrong way to use it.

He recommended that you wrap one end of the cable around of the the hinge joints of the rack and then insert the other end through the loop of the cable to form a slip-knot around one of the hinge joints and then run the other end through the frame of your bicycles and then lock it with a pad lock to the D-loop on the front of the rack.

For a padlock I would recommend a Master Lock # 131D.

I attached the installation instructions and a review video for this product also.
