Question:
I just purchased the hidden hitch III from your site for my 2008 Jeep Patriot and Im having trouble getting the optional rear tow hook off. The two bolts that are fastened through the frame are giving me issues. I cant seem to get them to loosen in either direction....should I be cranking clockwise our counter-clockwise on them? Do you have any tips on getting these things off? Also, how complicated is it to install my wiring harness that came with the patriot? Is it something that an average do-it-yourselfer can accomplish or should I just take it in to the shop? Thanks!

To remove the bolts that are attaching the tow hooks to the frame of your 2008 Jeep Patriot you will need to rotate them counter-clockwise.
For bolts that are being stubborn the first thing to try is spraying a lubricant like LubriMagic Green Series Biobased Spray Lubricant # L10444 and then hit the bolt a couple times lightly with a hammer to help break the threads loose.
Most of the time that will do the trick. However, if that does not work I would next try a cheater bar on the wrench or ratchet you are using.
A cheater bar is basically a pipe that will fit over the end of the wrench or ratchet to give you much more leverage over the stuck bolt. You will also want to be very careful not to strip the bolt either, you will always want to have as solid of a grip on the bolt as possible.
If you do strip the bolt, or decide you can not get enough force on the bolt to loosen it, as a last ditch effort you can use a grinder to grind the bolt head off which will allow you to remove the tow hook. Remember to wear eye protection and take your time.
