Installing a Reese 16 K Fifth Wheel Hitch on a 1988 Chevy Pickup

Question:

I need to mount a 16K reese in an 1988 Chev 2500 long bed. Where do I place the center of the 5th wheel? I have heard 52 inches from the cab and also 2 inches before the rear axle. Where does the 5th wheel go? using standard rails.

If you are using the universal install kit, part # RP30035, the hitch would be installed so that the king pin is approx. 1 1/2 inches in front of the rear axle center. Below is a copy of the installation instructions.

Questions and Comments about this Question

are the RP30035 and RP30095 the same except the 35 is 10 bolt and the 95 is 4 bolt?? will the 95 also fit a lil rocker 15k? which is easiest to install?

The two different rail kits will fit the same hitches, the difference is the number of bolts used to secure the system. Ease of install is somewhat dependent on the installer. There is less hardware involved with the 4 bolt kits, but guys that have gotten used to the 10 bolt kits usually prefer those. Easiest still is the fitted kit that is built truck specific to utilize as many pre-existing holes in the frame as possible. Lil Rocker hitches will fit Reese rails. The reverse will not fit, Reese hitches in Lil Rocker rails.
