Running Lights Do Not Work on Trailer Behind My 2008 Chevy Equinox

Question:

i Have a 2008 Equinox, the dealer sent out to have a hitch and wiring done. So brake, signal and emergency lights work properly but no running lights. Did they miss hooking up a wire ?

I would first use a circuit tester, like part # 40376, and check the trailer connector on the back of your Equinox. Make sure you are getting voltage at each pin when that function is activated. The pin that the green wire attaches to should show current when the right turn signal is activated. The pin for the yellow wire should show voltage when the left turn is activated. The pin for the brown wire is for the tail/ running lights. You should be seeing current here when these are activated. If this connector checks out OK, then the problem is in the trailer wiring.

You will have to trace the running/ tail light wire looking for breaks or worn insulation. Also look for loose or corroded connections. You might want to check with whoever did the installation for you. If they are above board, they should stand behind their work.
