Question:
I have a 2007 2WD Ford Expedition non EL with the HD tow package. Ford specs state 6000 lbs max weight carrying capacity and 600 lbs tongue weight or 9100 lbs weight distributing hitch capacity and 910 lbs tongue weight. Im confused on the hitch class...is it III or IV? Also, is there a percentage of the tow capacity that should be a not be exceeded? Im looking at a buying a travel trailer with a 6500 GVWR and a TW of 744 it may be a typo but thats what the website says and I just dont know what Ill need. Right now, Im just towing a small pop-up and its not an issue

Expert Reply:
With your current set up, you can safely tow 6000 lbs. Period. With the addition of the correct weight distribution system, your ratings increase, as you mention. The class of hitch is not really the relevant factor here, the weight capacities are what is important. With the trailer you mention, I would recommend the Reese Heavy Duty Round Bar Weight Distribution System, part # RP66066.
