Wiring a 7-Way Trailer Connector After Installing a Brake Controller on a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Question:

I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 LS. It has the brake controller wiring port under the dash and installing the controller part is easy, but the truck did not come with a 7-way plug which I need to install. Since it has the harnass in the cab for the controller, where is the wire located coming out for the electric brakes for me to wire to the 7-way? Does a separate wire need to be run?

We have a how to page that explains how this is done. All of the needed wires are already run to the rear of the vehicle, and are located above the spare tire. You will also need a 4 way to 7 way adapter, part # 37185. (Although you will probably have to cut off the 4 way connector on the adapter.)
