Is a Trailer Hitch Extender Needed for a Prorack Bike Rack on a 2002 Acura TL

Question:

is a hitch extender needed in general when using a bike rack Prorack? the hitch will be on a 2002 Acura TL. I have read some reviews saying that receiver is way under the car once installed

If you look at the pictures for Hidden Hitch # 60913, which has the same design as # 24791, you will see what the hitch looks like once installed. I would not say that the receiver is that far beneath the vehicle. If you are using the Prorack 2 Bike Carrier, # PR8062403, it extends 11 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright bar. This should provide ample clearance to clear the rear bumper of your 2002 Acura TL. I have included a link to the installation details for the trailer hitch and a video review of the bike rack.

You would not want to use a hitch extender because doing so will decrease the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. This is especially concerning on a class I trailer hitch that already has a low capacity.
