How To Determine What Bearings are Needed on a 1996 Starcraft Tent Trailer with Dexter 8-91 Hubs

I bought a used 1996 Starcraft Stardust tent trailer and Im trying to replace the bearings, etc. The hubs to the trailer are Dexter 8-91 As even though one has lug bolts on the hub, while the other just has holes. Prior replacement??? The bearings in both hubs appear to be 44649s even though the hub specs say they should be 44643s. The question I have is can I continue to use the same bearings with these hubs, or do I need to get the 8-91-05UCI hubs to use with these bearings. Im pretty confused to say the least! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There are two different Dexter 8-91 hubs that are available for a 2000 lb axle that will use different size bearings and seals. You will want to use the correct bearings and seal that are designed for that particular hub.

The Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly, part # 8-91-05UC1, comes with the # L44649 inner and outer bearings, the # L44610 races, the # 10-9 grease seal, and the # RG04-020 grease cap.

The Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly, part # 34822BX, comes with the # L44643 inner and outer bearings, the # L44610 races, the # 34823 grease seal, and the # RG04-020 grease cap.

The Dexter hub # 34822BX should have a #8-91A stamped on the back of the hub.

You might also want to measure the spindle on your trailer with a dial or digital caliper to determine what size bearings and seal is needed. I am including a picture to the right that will show you what three dimensions are needed.

If the B dimension for the seal is 1.24 inches and the C and D dimension for the bearings are .99 inches you will need the # 34822BX hub assembly.

If the B dimension is 1.50 inches and the C and D dimension is 1.06 inches you will need the # 8-91-05UC1 hub assembly.
