Locating Stop Light Circuit Wire for Brake Controller Install on a 1999 GMC Yukon

Question:

Hi, Im trying to hook up a brake controler on a 1999 GMC Yukon. I have located the factory blue and orange wires going to the rear. Question is where can I pick up the brake switch feed with out removing the steering column to get at the brake light switch?

Expert Reply:

The easiest way to do this is to access the main vehicle wiring harness located under the dash near the steering column. Using a circuit tester like part # 40376, you would probe the wires in this harness until you find the one that only shows current when the brake pedal is pressed. Once you find the right wire, you can tap the red wire from the brake controller into it.
