It sounds like you have a short either in the way you are wiring up the Hopkins Vehicle Wiring Converter, part # HM48915, or your trailer has a wiring issue that shorts out the entire circuitry of the # HM48915 and causes all of the tail light functions of your trailer to not work.

First thing I would check is that the way you wired in the # HM48915 to your tow vehicle.

First thing I would do is wire the red wire from the # HM48915 to the wire that has voltage when the brake pedal is depressed and does not have voltage when the blinkers are activated.

Next, attach the yellow wire to the circuit that activates with the left turn blinker.

Next, attach the green wire to the circuit that activates with the right turn blinker.

Now you will attach the black wire to the brake tail light circuit.

Finally, attach the white wire to a good ground.

At this point I would use a circuit tester, part # PTW2993, to test the four poles of the 4-way on the # HM48915 as a friend applies the blinkers, brakes, etc. with your vehicle key on. If there is voltage at the converter at the different poles of the 4-way when the appropriate function is being applied then you will know that the problem is in your trailer wiring.

At this point I would look over your trailer wiring for any bad grounds, loose wires, or corrosion and fix as necessary.
