How Could I Activate my 2004 Chevy Colorado Tail Light Functions with Tow Dolly Tail Lights

Question:

I have a Fleetwood Bounder motor home I want to tow a 2004 Chevy Colorado on a Tow Master dolley. Do you have a harness that will hook into the flat 5 pin connector on the truck and into the tow dolley wire so the light on the tow dolley and the rear light on the truck will be on together with out letting the rest of the truck being powered. The light power will be comming from the motor home. Thank YOU

There is a way you could wire a RoadMaster Tow Dolly with Electric Brakes, part # RM-2000-1, to allow you to use the tail light functions of the tow dolly and to activate the tail lights of your 2004 Chevy Colorado while being towed.

I spoke with my contact at RoadMaster and he informed me that there is not a kit or harness that you could buy that would allow you to do this, and that you would need a Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit, part # RM-154, and you would have to do a little fabricating to make this happen.

Basically what you would need to do is tap into the wiring harness of the tail lights on the tow dolly and then use the # RM-154 to take that signal to the tail lights of your Colorado. I attached a video below that shows how the # RM-154 installs into a vehicle to show you what its like. I also attached an FAQ page on diode kits below also.

For tapping into the tail light circuits I would recommend using quick splice Connectors - Blue Gel, part # 804C. I attached a link to a demonstration video for this product below. For testing the wires to determine what wire should be tapped into I would recommend you use a Quickee Circuit Tester, part # 3808.

Or if you wanted to simplify the installation you could use Magnetic Mount Stop, Turn and Tail Towing Light Kit w 20 foot Wiring Harness, part # TL21RK. This kit would magnetically attach to your Colorado and provide turn and brake signals without having to wire into your Colorado tail light circuitry. You could use a
4-Pole 60 inch Long Vehicle End, part # 18002, to tap into the brake light circuitry of the tow dolly and then run it to the # TL21RK to provide the tail light functions.
