Hi. I just purchased the Curt #13220 trailer hitch for my 2008 touareg from you all. I have seen the video that you have on your site regarding the install of it 2007 and feel confident I can handle it. However, I have been researching the internet trying to find some info. on installing the wiring kit #119176 and cant seem to find any info. on successful installs or any advise other to take it to the dealership. Just a few questions... 1. Does it come with instructions specific to the touareg? 2. Is is possible to mess up the electronics in the process? 3. Do you recommend someone DIY? 4. Is it fairly straight forward? 5. Do you have any instructions somewhere on your site that I can pull up to read? thanks for you time... I know its a lot, just want to have a better idea before I start.

We are here to help you make your decision and to help with the installation along the way. Wiring the Upgraded Circuit Protected Modulite with 4 Pole Harness and Hardwire Kit, item # 119176KIT, is a pretty straight forward process and doing it yourself is very doable. Just take your time and you will have a professional looking installation.
The instructions for the # 119176KIT wiring harness (see link) are not specific to the Touareg, but are very easy to follow. The circuit tester included in the kit is needed to determine the correct circuits to attach each wire from the harness to. You will need to access the rear taillights and test the wires there to find the left turn/stop circuit, the tail light circuit, the right turn/stop circuit and to mount the converter and the ground wire. Our hitch installation video, see link, details how to access the taillight wiring at the beginning of the video.
Any wiring project could go bad, but problems with this installation are easily avoided. Start by disconnecting the vehicle negative battery terminal. Then, start the installation by grounding the white ground wire with a ring terminal on the end of it. Next make sure the fuse is not installed in the fuse holder until all of the wiring is complete and protected from shorts.
I have attached the instructions for the # 119176KIT wiring harness and have linked a video installation of this kit on a different vehicle. The video will closely resemble your installation, except for getting access to the back of the tail lights for installation.
