The factory 2 inch trailer hitches on newer Chevy pickups like your 2009 Chevy Silverado 1500 do have a thicker side wall so chances are that the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, # 7683, will not be long enough. Instead, you will need to use a lock designed for a 2-1/2 inch hitch like Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, # RH5-XL.

To be certain, you can measure the distance from the outside of one hitch pin hole to the outside of the other. If that distance is less than 2-5/8 inches, you will be able to use the 7683. If it is between 2-5/8 and 3-1/16 inches, you will need # RH5-XL. I have included a link to a video review of this lock for you.
