What year is your Ford Explorer? Please let me know and I would be happy to suggest the best hitch for carrying a bike rack on your vehicle.

Question:

2005 and has the larger hitch I think 2". Would like one of the V style that hold the bike by the wheels as the cross bars are not level on the bikes

asked by: Colin

Expert Reply:

Since you already have the 2 inch trailer hitch, you have lots of options as far as 2-bike racks are concerned. If you like the V-style racks with wheel attachments, I would recommend the Highland SportWing # 5801200.

The Sportwing is made out of aluminum, so it is lightweight, and the wheel attachment hooks eliminate the need for adapter bars, as you mentioned. I would recommend the MasterLock integrated hitch and cable lock, part # 1470DAT, to secure the rack to the hitch and the bikes to the rack.

You can see videos describing the features of the SportWing and the lock set at the links provided.
