Draw-Tite Hitch Appearance and Will it Work Mated with Curt Cargo Carrier on a 2007 Chevy HHR

Question:

When hitch is installed will it be flush with rear bumper? Do not want to hit it with leg when not in use. Want to use Curt cargo carrier C18145 with it, will this fit OK? Am not using this hitch to tow only for cargo carrier.

The hitch opening on the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch, item # 24756, for the 2007 Chevrolet HHR will actually be located just short of the rear bumper. You will not have to worry about busting your shins as long as you do not leave accessories in the hitch. If you check out the end of the video installation for the 2010 HHR you will see the hitch in its final position and the measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the farthest out part of the rear bumper.

The Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier, item # C18145, is designed to work in the 1-1/4 inch hitch, but will not work in the # 24756 hitch on your 2007 HHR. The measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the carrier is 6 inches so the carrier will not clear the bumper when the carrier is correctly installed in the hitch. A cargo carrier that will work in a Class I hitch on your vehicle is the Draw-Tite Hitch Cargo Carrier, item # 6500, which has a maximum distance of 11-1/4 inches from the center of the pin hole to the edge of the cargo carrier.

You will want to check your vehicles tongue weight capacity and keep the weight of the cargo carrier and all items loaded on it below the lowest rated items tongue weight, either the hitch or vehicle.

You may also want to consider a hitch pin lock like the Stainless Steel Lock for 1-1/4 inch Hitches, item # 40106, to secure the cargo carrier to the trailer hitch on your vehicle.
