Question:
I have a 2003 Ford Explorer with a factory installed roof rack. If i were to install the Hullavator, how much taller would it be off the rack or the roof? I am concerned with being able to get the vehicle in the garage when the kayak is not on the Hullavator. Thank you for your help.

I walked out to our warehouse and assembled the Thule Hullavator - Easy Loading (Strut Assisted) Rooftop Kayak Carrier System, part # TH897XT. I measured from the bottom of the crossbar mount to the very top of the highest cradle and came up with 16-1/2 inches. To measure, I would recommend parking your explorer half way in the garage, and measure up 16-1/2 inches from the top of the crossbars to see if you will clear the top of the garage.
The cradles on the Thule Hullavator, attach using Allen Head Screws. What you could do is disconnect the cradles and leave the rest of the Hullavator assembly attached to the roof rack. I took a measurement from the top of the cross bar mount with the cradles off and measured approximately 4 inches. You would need 4 inches of clearance from the top of your crossbars on your 2003 Ford Explorer to clear your garage.
