Question:
What does the rating Max. Mechanical Advantage mean? Can I add a strap to hand winches that dont show one? Thanks.

Essentially to calculate mechanical advantage, first take the output force and then divide it by the input force. Input force is how much force you apply to the handle. Output force is how much force is applied to the load.
Some of the winches are for use with a cable only, and they will state that in the product description. If a strap can be used it will either state that it can or it will give an indication that one can be used, for example it might say max drum capacity when using a strap, in the specifications. The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch, # DL16003, does come with a 12 foot strap.
