Using Portable Brake Lights With Roadmaster 9700 Portable Braking System on 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier

I looked up the instructions from Roadmaster for the 9700 Portable Braking System, part # RM-9700. I found that there is a way to use portable magnetic tail lights with part # RM-9700, but additional connectors and use of a circuit tester, part # 3808, will be required.

You will need to peel back a section of wire covering on the electrical cable of the portable tail lights long enough to attach two connectors. Then, you will need to use a circuit tester to find the combined left and right brake and turn signal wires. You will need to find one of the combined brake and turn signal function wires and attach a butt connector to the wire. Then, run a small length of wire from the butt connector and a attach a female bullet connector to the end. After that attach a male bullet connector to another small wire, then use a spade connector which is included in the kit, attach the end to an input on the included diode. You will need to repeat this same process for the other brake and turn signal wire.

I walked out to our warehouse and pulled part # RM-9700. It includes the diode, but looks like you may need a few extra butt connectors, part # 05732-2, like the ones included in the kit, and 2 male and female bullet connectors.

Before towing you will have to connect the male and female bullet connectors. You will also need to connect a ground on both vehicles before towing. Make sure to wrap any connections or wires with electrical tape, part # BT66. You will need to follow the complete instructions with the unit and read over before operation.
