# 6 Prong Square on Jayco Trailer to 4 Prong Flat Wiring Color Scheme

Question:

I have a pop up camper Jayco that has a square 6 prong connector in the frame and a flat 4 prong on my truck the lights quit working so I started looking at the wiring on the trailer side and found that someone had cut and spliced the wires together when I undid the tape around the harness all the wires came apart and I need to know what colors go where please thakns the colors I have on the trailer side are yellow green white red black and brown

The wiring colors codes for the Jayco style 6-Way connector are not readily available. I can tell you that the following colors have worked out on a Jayco trailer before.

Yellow - Not determined, Green - tail light, White - ground, Red - left turn and brake, Black - not determined and Brown -right turn and brake

The leftover yellow and black wires would be used for auxillary power and backup lighting or trailer brake power, whichever is needed. You would need to use a circuit tester, item # 3808, to determine the correct function of these wires. If your trailer has brakes, a separate 12 volt battery could be used to apply the brakes momentarily. Have someone stand at the wheel and listen for the magnet to activate when you touch the wire you believe to be the brake feed wire. When a clicking sound is heard, brake magnet attaching to inside of drum, you have the correct wire.

The Adapter 4 Way Flat to 6 Way Square for Jayco, item # 30104 is wired only for the ground, tail light, left turn and brake, and right turn and brake functions of the 4-Way flat connector. Holding the connector with the ground stud up and on the left as pictured on our product page each of the remaining functions are as follows. 1 = top row left, ground stud, 2 = top row, middle, left turn and brake, 3 = top row, right, right turn and brake, 4 bottom row, left, no function, 5 = bottom row middle, no function and 6 = bottom row right, tail light function.

You can transition your trailer and vehicle to a 6-way connector like the Adapter 4 Pole to 6 Pole, item # 30637, that you mentioned. We have a wiring faq that details installing the ETBC6 wiring installation kit that will be very useful, once you have determined the wire functions on your trailer. You will also need the 6-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, 4 foot, item # 50-61-104, to complete the trailer side connection.
