Question:
My Toyota dealer installed a factory 4-pole harness on my 2010 Highlander. I need a 5-pole harness for my boat trailer. Thanks in advance.

We have a pretty simple little kit that will allow you to up-convert your 4-Pole into a 5-Pole, Tow Ready part # 20036. You will connect it to your existing 4-Pole, then run the included blue lead back upt the 2010 Highlander and behind the tail light assembly. You will need a circuit tester, like part # 3808, to identify which wire feeds the reverse bulb. Have someone in the vehicle put the car in reverse so you can test the wires.
Once you have determined which wire carries the reverse light signal, use the included scotch-lock to splice into that wire with the blue lead. This will provide a functional 5-Pole. I imagine your boat trailer will use this either for reverse lights or more likely, a reverse lock-out function on the trailer brakes.
We have a video of this adapter kit being installed on a 2006 Kia Sorento that should give you a good idea of how the kit installs.
