What are the Differences Between the Thule Doubletrack and Yakima StickUp Bike Racks

Im going to purchase a new hitch rack and Ive narrowed it down to the Thule Doubletrack and the Yakima Stickup. They both look good and the Stickup is about $40 less than the Stickup. Any recommendations on which one I should buy?

The build quality on both racks is excellent. Thule and Yakima are big hitters in the business and both of them build good racks. The Thule Doubletrack, part # TH990XT, does have a couple features that the Yakima Stickup, part # Y02420, does not.

First is the tilt function. Both racks tilt down. The Thule uses a quick-release switch that you can manipulate with your hand or foot. To get the Yakima Stickup to tilt down, you would have to bend over and pull a spring pin.

The Thule Doubletrack also has an included/integrated lock feature. The Thule Doubletrack includes a locking hitch pin. The Yakima Stickup includes a pin, but you have to purchase the lock separately. To secure the bikes to the Doubletrack, there are built-in locks on the hooks. Snug the hooks down onto the bike, and you can lock the hooks. It is the same key as the included pin lock. With the Yakima Stickup, you can purchase a separate cable lock to the secure the bikes to the rack.

The Yakima does have a higher capacity, 90 pounds, versus the Thule Doubletrack 70 pound capacity.

The included and integrated locking features and the easier to use tilting feature make the Thule Doubletrack my preference. Not having to purchase separate locks and messing with a cable is a wonderful feature. However, if your bikes weight more than a total of 70 pounds, the Yakima may be the right choice.
