Hitch Recommendation for a 2008 Nissan Verso for Wheelchair Carrier

Question:

I have a 2008 Nissan Versa. I would like to carry my mobility chair weight is about 125 lbs. on a light aluminum rack. Since I only drive with my wife and I in the forward seat, will be able to add a trailer hitch, the rack, and my mobility chair safely? Thanks for your help.

First you would need a hitch for your 2008 Nissan Versa. For that the Draw Tite hitch part # 24798 would be a great choice. This hitch has a 200 lb tongue weight capacity so the weight of your mobility chair and carrier would need to have a combined weight that is less than that.

Since your chair weighs 125 lbs you would have 75 lbs left for a carrier. Since you said you have an aluminum rack this shouldn't be an issue at all.

You will also need to check the owners manual of your vehicle and be sure the vehicle also is rated high enough for the weight of your carrier and chair.

Most wheel chair carriers are only rated for Class II 1-1/4 inch hitches. You will need to be sure that the carrier you have is Class I compatible.
