There are several factors that lead to the proper 5th wheel trailer hitch for a truck. But first, you will need an installation kit for your 2011 Ram 2500. I recommend Curt custom installation fit # C16420-204. Custom kits require less drilling compared to universal and semi-custom kits and they install quicker.

Next you would want to choose between a fixed 5th wheel hitch and a slider. If you have a short bed truck you will need a slider. If you have a long bed truck you will use a fixed hitch.

And then you need to consider the towing capacity of the truck and the gross trailer weight. The hitch needs to be rated high enough to handle the weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow. And you will also check the truck owners manual for its capacity prior to purchasing a trailer or a hitch.

I can provide you with a list of my preferred hitches in slider and fixed style and in different capacities.

For a 16K I like the Curt Q16, # C16120 for fixed or # C16521 for a slider. These hitches have a 360 degree cushioned head for better ride quality.

For a 20K I like the Reese hitch # RP30928. This is a good entry level hitch with a single-jaw design for solid contact with the trailer king pin. For a slider I recommend the # C16541. It has a dual-jaw design for less rattle.

For a 24K I would go back to the Curt Q series, # C16245 for a fixed or # C16546 for a slider. Same great features as the 16K only with a higher capacity.
