Can Tire Snow Chains Be Used on Dry Pavement or Plowed Highways

Question:

Im looking a tire chain: Thule Tire Chains - TH01221102. Id like to know if can I drive w/ these on a highway, and also, can they be driven on roads that are semi-plowed, on plowed pavement? Will they break on pavement without snow? Highway without snow, after a plow but residential roads are still snow? Heres what I mean exactly. For example, it snows and plows are out, I want snow chains on to get around more easily, but not all roads are entirely snow covered. Can I drive on roads that are plowed well? Should I take off the chains before accessing a well plowed highway, or can I safely use the product there?

You do not want to use chains on dry roads for a couple reasons. You will wear the chains out quickly this way, you will tear up the roads, and you will be limited to going about 35 miles per hour.

Basically once you get out of the heavy snow you will want to remove the chains if for no other reason so that you can go the speed limit without risking the chains breaking and beating up the side of your car.

Also, you will want to consult the DOT in your area for snow chain laws.

Lastly, check the owners manual of your vehicle to determine if there are any restrictions on snow chain usage in your area.
