Which Brake Controller works well for a 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Question:

What type of towing brake controller and wire harness should I get for a 2008 Toyota Tacoma? The wire harness that come with this is five wires, what would you recommend?

Expert Reply:

I recommend a proportional type controller, such as the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885 for your 2008 Toyota Tacoma. It easy to install and is the most popular controller we sell.
It sounds as if you have the OEM wiring adapter that came with the vehicle. If this is the case, the OEM adapter would wire to the controller as follows. The black and red wire from the OEM adapter would attach to the black wire on the controller, the green and white wire on the adapter would attach to the red controller wire, the brown wire on the adapter attaches to the white wire on the controller, and the red adapter wire would connect to the blue wire on the controller. The OEM adapter also had a green wire, which is for an illumination circuit. This wire is not used, and should be taped off and bundled up out of the way.
