Is It Normal to Have a Small Amount of Play When a Drawbar is Inserted In the Hitch

Question:

I notice a certain amount of looseness with this draw bar when installed into the 2 inch receiver of my draw-tite hitch. Is it normal for there to be a little play in the fit? Thanks

Expert Reply:

Yes, there is usually a small amount of play when a drawbar is installed in a receiver hitch. Manufacturing tolerances between different manufacturers and ease of installation and removal cause some drawbars to fit better in some hitches and more loosely in others.

If the looseness bothers you or the draw bar is causing noise when towing you can use an anti rattle device to tighten the drawbar in the hitch. For the Master Lock Locking Ball Mount, item 3489AT, I would recommend the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 2 inch Trailer Hitches, item # RM-061. This item will slide over the drawbar before installing in the hitch and you can then tighten the draw bar for a rattle free towing experience.
