Which Brake Controller Should Be Used on a 40 Foot Three Axle Toy Hauler

I have a 2005 Chev Silverado Duremax. I had it set up for a 28 foot bumber pull trailer with tandem axels. Sold the 28 trailer and baught a 40 foot toy hauler with three axels. The truck pulls the trailer great but stopping is another story. The front axel breaks lock up and have worn flat spots on the tires. I have adjusted and readjusted the brake unit. It is a Hayes Lemmerz Energize III. Is this the correct unit for me?

The Hayes Energize III is probably undersized for your new 40 foot toy hauler. The Hayes controller is designed for trailers with 1-2 braking axles. I imagine that at least two of your axles are braking axles and are probably larger 12 inch brakes. I would suggest upgrading to brake controller meant for larger axles.

Since you are already using a proportional controller, you will probably want to stay with proportional. I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy, part # 90185. It is our best selling brake controller and one of the best performing.
