Volkswagen GTI Questions

  • Other than a slightly different appearance, and the fact that the # C11355 installation is more simple, the primary difference is that the # C11355 would not be a fit for TDI models while the # C11412 will fit all Golf and GTI models with the exclusion of the R model. Since your GTI is the gas model, you could use either hitch. Since the # C11355 is a few dollars less expensive and easier to install, I'd recommend using that one. Is you can see in the side-by-side photo I've...

  • We do indeed have a confirmed hitch fit for your 2015 Volkswagen GTI with gasoline engine. Curt offers their light-duty 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch # C11355 for your car. This hitch offers a 200-lb tongue weight rating and is suitable for use with compatible Class I accessories like bike and cargo carriers. Please note that a Class I hitch has a maximum bike-carrying capacity of two bikes and no more (no matter what the carrier's capacity is). This has to do with the leverage...

  • There is currently one hitch that we offer for your 2015 VW GTI Autobahn. It's the Curt hitch # C11412. It is custom fit for your GTI but it will be visible when not in use because the receiver tube is flush with the crossbar. This is a Class-I hitch and the maximum gross trailer weight is 2,000 pounds and tongue weight maximum is 200 pounds. The trailer hitches # 24925 (Draw-Tite) and # 60362 (Hidden Hitch) you referenced fit a 2015 VW Golf and not your 2015 VW GTI Autobahn. If...

  • The Hidden Hitch Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # 60330, will end up being located in the same place as the Curt Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # C11000, on your 2011 Volkswagen GTI. It is located right under the rear fascia of your vehicle. The ball mounts that are used with these hitches will always have to be used in the rise position. I am including a link to the Installation instructions on both of the hitches. The instructions will show a side view of where the hitch...

  • We have just what you would need. A wheel mounted platform bike rack like the Thule T2 part # TH917XTR would be just what you would need. It won't touch the bikes anywhere but the tires so the cables and paint would be left alone. Check out the review video I attached for this rack as well. You will need a trailer hitch installed on your 2009 Volkswagen GTI as well though like the Draw Tite part # 24825 if you do not have one already. This is a great hitch that we recommend...

  • We do have M6 carriage bolts that are 80 mm long, check out the Thule Xadapt3, part # THXADAPT3, which comes with eight, 80 mm, M6 carriage bolts. The wingnut that you referenced, Thule Replacement Wingnut, part # TH04877, will work with the 80 mm carriage bolts # THXADAPT3, and the 75 mm bolts, part # TH915-0675-11, and # TH10403.

  • The Thule Parkway 4 Bike Rack, part # TH957, is designed to fit on Class I and Class II hitches, but you can only carry 2 bikes maximum on a Class I hitch. A Class II hitch is stronger than a Class I hitch and is capable of handling 4 bikes with no problems. The reason that you should only load 2 bikes on the # TH957 bike rack, when using a Class I hitch, is because with 3 or 4 bikes loaded, even if you are under the 200-lb tongue weight, there is too much weight that is far...

  • For the Tow Ready Upgraded Heavy Duty Modulite Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness with Install Kit, # 119190KIT, we do have a wiring installation instructions technical bulletin for your 2010 Volkswagen GTI. I will send you a link to this bulletin. We do not have any wiring diagrams for the 2010 Volkswagen GTI because the manufacture does change, quite often, the color connections on the wiring systems, so it is hard to maintain the correct diagrams. If you have any...

  • Both the Kuat Beta Bike Rack part # B202-114 and the Rhino Rack Bike Rack part # RRRBC045 would work great on your 2013 Volkswagen GTI as long as you have a hitch installed on it like the Draw Tite part # 24904. If you wanted to convert the Kuat so that it can be used on a 2 inch hitch all you would need is the adapter part # D101. The Rhino Rack can tilt away like the Kuat. I attached a picture that shows it being tilted for you to check out. Both racks are great, but...

  • Hidden Hitch has does not have any trailer hitches for the 2015 Volkswagen GTI which is why you do not see it listed. We could test fit a hitch but we would need a willing volunteer in the Wentzville, Missouri area. Since Golf and GTI are separate models that is why there are other options for it. The Hidden Hitch models for the 2014 Golf are different than the ones listed for the 2014 GTI so Hidden Hitch will likely produce an all new hitch for the 2015 GTI. Basically...

  • I can help you identify the right hitch for your 2016 VW GTI. The hitch that fits the 2016 GTI is the Curt Class I hitch # C11412, not the Draw-Tite # 24904 you were looking at, which is great news because that hitch required some trimming but this Curt hitch does not. To install the Curt hitch # C11412, you will have to temporarily lower the exhaust while installing the hitch but there is not drilling or cutting to be done. It's important to note that Curt recommends the...

  • For a 2007 Volkswagen Golf GTI, I recommend using the Upgraded Heavy Duty Modulite Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness with Install Kit, # 119190KIT. I have included a link to the installation details for reference. You will want to follow the installation steps for a 3 wire system. If your system has combined stop and tail light functions, what you will do is attach the red stop light wire to the corresponding stop light wire on the vehicle. The brown running light wire...

  • First you are going to want to check the vehicle owners manual to determine the towing capacity of the 2013 Volkswagen GTI. As long as it has the capacity to handle the combined weight of the trailer and motorcycles then you can install a hitch and tow that trailer. The hitches available for the 2013 GTI, see link, are rated for a maximum of 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight and that includes Curt hitch # C11000 that you have selected. I actually...

  • I recommend using a heavy duty vehicle wiring harness # 119190KIT because it includes circuit protection to safeguard itself from electrical shorts. Vehicles using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) will give your trailer lights full brightness during activation. This hasn't been tested on the GTI models yet, but my contact at Tow-Ready confirmed that it will work with the 2015 Golf and would work with the GTI just fine even though it isn't published as a fit in our fit guide. We...

  • Yes, we do offer the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver, # C11412, for your 2015 Volkswagen GTI. This hitch is designed specifically for your vehicle and no welding or drilling is required for installation. When it comes to a hitch mounted bike rack, one of my favorites is the Thule Helium Aero, # TH9042. This bike rack is lightweight, has anti-sway cradles that cushion your bikes, and a built-in anti-rattle hitch pin for tool-free installation. Another option for carrying...

  • On a Class I trailer hitch you are correct, there would be too much torque on the hitch because of having the weight of a third bike that far away from the receiver. It is like using a cheater bar to loosen a lug nut. What you can do is use the hitch to mount a Class I compatible bike rack, like the Swagman Titan, # S63400, to carry the 2 single bikes. This hitch has a 3 inch rise in the shank to provide better ground clearance. With a hitch like # 24904 installed the top...

  • I wish I could provide you with a definitive yes or no answer, but we have not yet had the opportunity to install a hitch on a 2013 GTI, so we do not have any dimensions telling us how far the receiver will be recessed under the vehicle, which is the key indication of whether a bike rack will be compatible with a given vehicle. If you already have the hitch installed, you would simply measure from the hitch pin hole rearward until you reach the furthest rearward point of the...

  • We currently have a few trailer hitch options that will fit all models of the 2013 Volkswagen GTI. You can use Curt trailer hitch # C11000, Draw-Tite hitch # 24904, or Hidden Hitch # 60330. Please consult the vehicle owners manual first if you plan on doing any towing. The correct ball mount for use with this hitch and vehicle is # C45016 for the Curt, # 3594 for the Draw-Tite, and the Hidden Hitch includes the ball mount. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch...

  • I went into our showroom and measured the Thule Helium Aero Aluminum 2 Bike Carrier, part # TH9042, as well as a Kuat Beta Folding 2 Bike Rack, part # B202-114, and found that they both had the same distance of 34 inches from the shank of the hitch up to the arms of the rack. It looks like the Thule Helium Rack will have 3/4 of an inch more of a distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the upright bar of the rack. Aside from that these racks are very similar. The main...

  • The maximum recommended speed for the Glacier V-Trac Snow Tire Cables, part # PW1930V, is 30 MPH. With any snow cables or snow chains, you want to stay below the maximum speed rating of the tire cables or chains. We do not have available any snow chains that are able to be used when traveling 50 MPH or faster. You should not use snow chains on dry or uncovered pavement, only when there is snow or ice on the ground. When mounting snow chains on your vehicle, it is most effective...
