Volkswagen GTI Questions and Answers
- Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2012 Volkswagen GTI
- To start, lets look at trailer hitches. There are 3 hitches for the 2012 Volkswagen GTI, see link. I recommend the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24904 over the Curt hitch # C11000. The reason is that Curt requires the use of a stabilization strap, # 18050, for their warranty requirements and the Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch trailer hitches do not.
Since you are going to use the hitch for a bike rack, you would not need the ball mount that comes with the Hidden Hitch so Draw-Tite hitch # 24904 is t

- Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2011 Volkswagen GTI
- The Swagman bike Rack # S64095 is designed to be clamped to the bumper on a truck that has a towing ball hole in the center. It will not fit your VW.
For your 2011 GTI I recommend a trunk mount bike rack, see link. With a trunk mount rack you will not need a trailer hitch. And a trunk mount rack can be used on other vehicles.
If you want to go with a hitch mount option and need a hitch I recommend # 60330. This is a Class I trailer hitch rated for 200 pounds tongue weight. For a compatible

- Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2004 Volkswagen GTI
- For your 2004 Volkswagen GTI I recommend the same hitch you referenced, # 24679, since you want a hitch to carry bikes. I have included a link to the installation instructions and a video showign a typical installation on a similar vehicle.
This is a Class I trailer hitch so you will need a bike rack that is compatible with Class I hitches and you will be limited to carrying a maximum of 2 bikes.
I recommend the Swagman Titan, # S63400. This rack fits all of the necessary criteria for your

- Troubleshooting Trailer Taillight Malfunction Connected to a 2006 Volkswagen GTI
- It sounds like you might have a ground problem on the trailer side of the wiring. Nearly every time there is bizarre behavior on the tail lights of a trailer its because of a faulty ground. I would inspect the wiring for exposed wire/corrosion and fix as necessary. I would start at the trailer connector looking for corrosion and then work your way back to the taillight assemblies. A lot of light assemblies ground through the mounting hardware, so you may need to check where that your assembly is

- Trailer Hitch, Bike Racks, and Roof Rack to Carry 2 Single Bikes and 1 Tandem Bike on a 2013 VW GTI
- On a Class I trailer hitch you are correct, there would be too much torque on the hitch because of having the weight of a third bike that far away from the receiver. It is like using a cheater bar to loosen a lug nut.
What you can do is use the hitch to mount a Class I compatible bike rack, like the Swagman Titan, # S63400, to carry the 2 single bikes. This hitch has a 3 inch rise in the shank to provide better ground clearance. With a hitch like # 24851 installed the top of the receiver wil

- Ground Clearance Provided with Rola NV2 Bike Rack on 2009 VW GTI
- Since the Rola NV2 holds the bike to the rack by the wheels, the wheel diameter of your bike will determine how much if any the bike tires will extend below the level of the hitch receiver.
If you take a look at the photo I edited for you, you can see a typical mountain bike with 26 inch diameter wheels placed on the rack. As you can see, the tires do not extend lower than the lowest portion of the rack. A bike with larger diameter wheels would hang a bit lower.
Since a WV GTI has limited

- Is there a Lock for K-Summit Tire Chains for a 2013 Volkswagen GTI
- A lock for the Thule K-Summit chains like # TH02230K23 is not available. The thinking is that the weight of the car is a deterrent (for any chains) and some one would not only have to have the proper tools but also a jack to jack up the car to get the weight off the chains to even begin thinking about taking them off. Of course since these chains are relatively easy to put on/take off, the best solution is to remove them if you will be away from the vehicle for extended periods of time.

- Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2011 Volkswagen GTI
- The Draw-Tite trailer hitch, # 24851 that you have, is a Class I trailer hitch. As a Class I hitch, you can only use accessories rated for use on a Class I hitch and for bike racks you are limited to carrying a maximum of 2 bikes. The Softride Element, # SR26248, will only work in Class II or III trailer hitches.
For a compatible bike rack, I recommend the Swagman Titan, # S63400. It is Class I compatible, it holds 2 bikes, and it has anti-sway cradles and the ability to tilt down. It also fe

- Fit of Swagman G2 Part # S64680 on 2010 VW Golf
- The G2 offers a bit more clearance between the rack and the vehicle than the XTC-2. To determine if the G2 will fit your 2010 VW GTI, you will need to measure the distance from your hitch pin hole rearward to the furthest part of your rear bumper.
If the measurement is less than 11-1/2 inches, the rack will be capable of installing on your GTI. If your measurement is less than 9-1/2 inches, the rack will be capable of folding.

- Curt Hitch Recommendation for a 2006 Volkswagen GTI
- The main difference between the Curt Hitch # 11074 and the Draw-Tite Hitch # 24825 / Hidden Hitch # 60212 is like you already noticed, the Curt is a round tube and the others are square.
Generally speaking, most people agree that the round tube style hitches look less visible. It also helps that the Curt has brackets that do not come down on either side of the cross tube as far either.
I think the Curt hitch would be the best choice for you as it be less visible for the above mentioned rea

- After Installing Curt Wiring Harness # C56201KIT on a 2006 VW GTI Trailer Running Lights Do Not Work
- It sounds like you have connected the converter wires to the incorrect wires on your 2006 VW GTI. You will need to test the tail light wiring again and find the one wire that carries left turn, brake, and running lights and connect the yellow wire to it. Then find the wire on the right side that has right turn, brake, and running light functions and attach the green wire.
If you need a circuit tester use # 40376.

- The Yakima KingJoe Pro 2, # Y02624, will fit the 2008 Volkswagen GTI. If you will be carrying womens, childrens, or alternative frame bikes, I recommend using the Tube Top adapter bar, # Y02531, for greater ground clearance and to carry the bikes more level.

- Using a Hitch Adapter to Carry Bike Rack in Class I Receiver on 2012 VW GTI
- Although using an adapter like # HTAD will indeed allow the use of a bike rack with a 2 inch shank in a Class I receiver like the # C11000, using the adapter will lower the tongue weight capacity (maximum amount of weight that can be suspended from the receiver) of the receiver by 50 percent, from 200 lbs to 100 lbs. This would mean that the weight of your bike rack plus the bikes placed upon it could not exceed 100 lbs. Using an adapter places the load further away from the receiver, thus placi

- How to Determine if a Scooter on Rage Motorcycle Carrier MX600 Will Clear Spare on a Jeep Wrangler
- What you will need to do to determine fit of the Rage Motorcycle/Scooter Carrier, # MX600, on the Jeep Wrangler is take a couple of measurements. On the Jeep, measure from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the distance required to clear the spare tire.
Next, measure the width of the scooter at the widest point and dived by 2 to get half. Then, take the result and subtract it from 20 (for example if the scooter was 22 inches wide, dive by 2 to get half which is 11. Then take 20 minus 11

- Does the Power Wire in Curt Trailer Wiring Harness # 56200 Have to be Connected to the Battery
- The Curt PWM Powered Converter, # 56200, should only be connected to the positive battery terminal using Installation Kit, # 55151. The kit comes with a fuse holder and fuse that is ideal for the wiring harness. A 12 volt power port in the back of the vehicle should not be used because it has a higher rated fused circuit.
This would allow more power draw through the harness, which it is not designed for, and potentially damage the wiring of the harness and vehicle. I have included a link to

It looks like the Thule Helium Rack will have 3/4 of an inch more of a distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the upright bar of the rack. Aside from that these racks are very similar. The main difference between

- How Effective Would Adding Snow Tire Chains be on a 2010 Volkswagen GTI

A 4wd vehicle is nice to have in the snow, but the tires make a difference and how somebody drives with the 4wd can make a difference. The 2010 Volkswagen GTI is a front wheel drive vehicle which is designed for performance and handling so it will use the larger 17 inch and 18 inch tire

- Using a Trialer Hitch on the 2010 Volkswagen GTI To Carry a Recumbent Trike and Trike Rack
- The Curt Class I Trailer Hitch, item # C11000, will work great for hauling your recumbent trike on a hitch mounted rack. As long as you stay within the 200 pound tongue weight rating of the hitch or the tongue weight rating of your vehicle, check owner manual, whichever is less, and use stabilizing straps, item # 18050, to help support the load in the trailer hitch.
All non-trailer loads (bike racks, cargo carriers, etc) must be supported by stabilizing straps per Curt warranty requirements.
