Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Questions

  • I have everything you need to install a 7-way trailer connector on your 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited without the factory tow package, however, the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Connector, # HM42190, will not fit because it was designed for vehicles with a factory tow package. The previous question that you referenced is about a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the factory tow package. To install a 7-way trailer connector on your Jeep, you will first need to install...

  • There are 2 base plate kits that will fit the Hard Rack models of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: Roadmaster base plates # 1444-1 and Blue Ox base plates # BX1134. In both cases the front cross member will be visible. These are the only options so there isn't anything that is any more hidden than them. the Blue Ox base plates cost a little less so I would go with them. For a compatible tow bar the most popular option for Wrangler owners is the Alpha, # BX7365. It is rated...

  • First you should determine the weight of your 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and compare it to the towing capacities of your Ford Expedition to be sure you have the capacity to do what you are planning to do. If so, the correct base plate kit is the part # BX1134 that you referenced. The Blue Ox Adventurer # BX7322 would also work as a tow bar that will attach to a ball mount that has a 2 inch ball on it. For safety cables you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep...

  • Yes, the 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will use the same flat towing setup as a non-Unlimited Wrangler. The Roadmaster base plates, part # RM-521448-5, is a confirmed fit for the 2015 Jeep Wrangler provided it does not have an aftermarket bumper, winch, or guard. I spoke with my contact at Roadmaster and he said it will fit your Unlimited Sahara. In addition to base plates you will need a tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. The most popular tow...

  • I spoke with my contact at Bestop and he informed me that the top that you will want is the Supertop NX, # B5472335. The Supertop NX allows you to fold back the top for a sunroof appearance and allows you to roll the entire soft top back to the spare tire for a topless look. As you mentioned, the rear windows will need to be unzipped to roll the rear portion back. The Trektop Soft Top, # B5680535, that you referenced will not fold all the way back to the spare tire like you...

  • When using the Adapter Lugs for Off-Road Vehicle Bumpers # BX88296 the pins would need to be horizontal and not vertical so it would not work with the mating ones welded onto your bumper. But I do have a potential solution for you. You could have universal base plates installed, # BX88230, and not have to use an adapter. Drilling is required in the bumper to install these base plates. The base plates are rated for up to 5,000 pounds and from what I could find the max curb weight...

  • All of the base plates for your 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited are designed for models that do not have an aftermarket bumper. Since yours does you will need base plates # BX88266. These base plates mount to a flat, metal section of your vehicle's bumper. Most bumpers will need to be modified for use with these brackets. It is possible that you could use an adapter with the bumper. If the bumper has D-ring mounts in the front that can be removed and the hole diameter is 7/8 of...

  • You will need to get a tow bar setup confirmed to fit your 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited as the part # 521440-1B you mentioned would not fit. For that you would want the # RM-521448-4 as long as you have a factory bumper. In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to flat tow your vehicle. The most popular compatible tow bar is the Falcon 2, # RM-520. For safety cables you can use # RM-643....

  • Most likely you will not need a brake light relay for your 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I recommend wiring the Wrangler first and checking to see if you need a brake light relay before installing it. You will want to connect the Jeep's wiring to the motor home's, put the Jeep in tow mode, turn on the motor home's blinker, and then have a helper step on the Jeep's brake. If the turn signal continues to blink on the Jeep, you will not need a brake light relay. We have not...

  • Expansion Arm for Rhino-Rack J-Style Kayak Carriers # RRS512X contains 2 of the extension pieces so you would not have to buy 2 of them to use with carrier # S512. The 34 inch wide kayaks would not be a problem provided that the combined weight of both kayaks is no greater than 99 pounds.

  • From what I have found the 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited does NOT need to have fuses pulled to flat tow it. This means you will not need a fuse bypass. Consult the owners manual to confirm this and for other specific information on flat towing your Jeep. There are other items needed to flat tow your Jeep: base plates, tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. For base plates I recommend the Roadmaster XL base plates # 1439-1. These base plates will fit...

  • We have exactly what you would need. Check out the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 Platform Bike Rack w/ Cargo Carrier # HR1450-85. This is a platform bike rack that features a cargo carrier behind the bike rack that would work well as long as the distance from the center of the pin hole of your hitch is less than 12 inches. I attached a review video for this product as well. Spare tire bike racks aren't designed for use with a hitch mounted cargo carrier since most likely...

  • We test fit a several hitch cargo carriers on a similar 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and we found that the Curt # C18145 and the # PS1040100 allowed the rear cargo door to open over the carrier. I wish either of them folded up, but none of the folding carriers we offer would have the clearance to fold up around the spare. But the two options I listed will satisfy you primary interest. Check out the review videos I attached to see that they will fit and clear.

  • The price difference between the Blue Ox Aladdin Tow Bar, # BX4325, and the Roadmaster Blackhawk 2 All Terrain Tow Bar, # RM-422, is basically due to the fact that the Blackhawk 2 is a heavy-duty steel tow bar designed to flat tow full-size trucks and SUVs. The Aladdin is a lightweight aluminum tow bar designed to tow mid-size vehicles like your 2012 Jeep Wrangler. For your situation, I recommend using the Blue Ox Aladdin tow bar for a few reasons. First, to use a tow bar,...

  • For a 2 inch trailer hitch extension, I recommend going with # HE06 because it was designed for this purpose. The adapter you have referenced is designed for flat towing and not for carrying accessories. The use of an extension is going to reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. For example, if the trailer tongue weight capacity is 350 pounds, with an extender installed it can only handle 175 pounds. The combined weight of your bikes and bike...
