Ford F-450 Super Duty Questions and Answers
- How is the Height Adjustment Measured on the Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch
- When measuring the height of a 5th wheel hitch it would be from the top of the truck bed corrugations to the top of the head. The Q20, # C16130, is height adjustable from 13 to 17 inches. Since the X5, # 16310, sets in a gooseneck ball hole but the rails would be no higher than regular rails, it does not add height.
To get the proper height setting you would need to know the distance from the top of the bed side rails to the bottom of the trailer overhang. You need 5 or 6 inches of space to b

- Fifth Wheel Hitch Install Kit for 2004 Ford F450 with F350 Bed
- Reese offers a universal fifth wheel hitch installation kit, part # RP30035 that is compatible with your 2004 F450.
There are some model years where the F350 and the F450 could use the same custom install kit, part # RP50082, but the custom install kit has not been tested on a 2004 model.
If your F450 with the F350 bed on it was originally a cab and chassis truck, the install kit will not work, as the frame layout of cab and chassis models is different. If your truck originally had a bed o

- Will a Toolbox with 19-1/4 in by 56 in Dimensions fit in a 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier
- The Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier 24x60 # C18133 that you referenced should work well to transport your tool box as long as it and your tools do not exceed the weight capacity of cargo carrier. This carrier has a weight capacity of 500 lbs.
The inside dimensions of this carrier are 24 inches by 60 inches which would easily accommodate your tool box that is 19-1/4 inches by 56 inches even with its rounded corners.

- Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with a 2008 Ford F-450 with a Gooseneck Trailer Hitch
- If your 2008 Ford F-450 has a regular pickup bed then you can use an adapter like the Anderson Ultimate connection # AM3225. The bottom of it fits around the gooseneck ball and the top has an adapter that fits around the trailer king pin. You do not have to modify the trailer at all. I have linked a video review of the adapter for you.
There is also a product called the Goose Box. There are a few different ones that fit different make and model pin boxes. If you have a Lippert 0719, 1621 and

- Ball Mount Recommendation for a Ford F450 with a 2-1/2 inch Hitch Opening
- There are three ball mounts we offer that will work for the 2-1/2 inch hitch on your Ford F450 with a 2-1/2 inch opening. The problem that many encounter is that the Ford 2-1/2 inch hitches are very tight with round corners and many ball mounts like the Reese Titan Ball Mount # RP45323 that you referenced will not fit without modification.
The ball mounts we have found to work on the Ford 2-1/2 hitches are the Cushioned Ball Mount # AMSCV-2, the Cushioned Ball Mount # AMSCV-4, and the Cushion

- Acceptable Front-to-Back Play of Reese Elite 5th Wheel Hitch, Part # RP30142, in 2012 Ford F-350
- I spoke to my contact at Reese and they confirmed that some front-to-back play, such as what you are experiencing, is normal with your 5th wheel hitch.
Since you have a factory-installed under-bed rail system we will assume that the 1/4 inch front-to-back play you have noted is not due to those components being loose.
You may want to re-check that the mounting of the base arch has been done to manufacturer specification. The arch half with the large warning label should be mounted on the d

- Trailer Chucking when Using a Factory Installed Reese Elite Series 5th Wheel Hitch
- King pins used in recreational towing are a standard size. The part that fits in between the jaws should have a diameter of 2 inches. If it is smaller than this you will need to have the king pin replaced.
The single wrap around jaw on the Reese Elite Series 25k, # RP30143, is one of the most secure connections and chucking with it should be minimal. It sounds like you might be high-hitched. This is when the king pin is not properly in the jaws. Take a look at page 13 of the instructions I ha

- Is a 2010 Ford F-450 Integrated Brake Controller Compatible a Generation 5 Hydrastar HBA-10
- On a generation 5 Hydrastar it is possible that you would need to use the Carlisle Control Adapter Module, # HBA-CAM. The generation 7 units will work without the adapter but it is a little less likely with the older generations. Adding the adapter could solve the problem.
Also you will want to check the wiring on the trailer to make sure there are no loose or broken wires, bad or corroded grounds, or dirty or corroded trailer connectors on the vehicle and trailer. Fix/clean issues as needed

- How to Replace an Integrated Brake Controller on a 2009 Ford F-450 P/U with a Tekonsha P3
- The way that you have described the installation of an aftermarket controller is correct. On a 2009 Ford F-450 Super Duty you will need to unplug the factory controller and insert harness # 3034-P and the new brake controller in its place. This will set off a fault code on the dash.
You can just leave this alert if it does not bother you but to remove it you will have to take the truck to a Ford dealer. I have included a link to an FAQ article that explains what the Ford dealer will need to

Rumors have been circulating for some time that a similar system will be available as a factory option from Chevy, but neither I nor my contact at Cequent have anything more concrete than that.

- Rear Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for a 2008 Ford F-450 Super Duty Dually
- In terms of air springs that are rated higher than # F2446, we do not carry a set rated higher for a 2008 Ford F-450. However, if you do not need to level the bed side to side often, which is one benefit of air springs, I would go with a Timbren system instead.
Take a look at the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, # TFRSDP. It is rated for up to 12,000 pounds which is more than twice the capacity of the air springs. The Timbren system is also low maintenance. You will not have to ad

- Difference Between Curt 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kits for a 2008 Ford F-450 Super Duty
- There are actually 2 possible Curt 5th wheel installation kits that will fit your 2008 Ford F-450 Super Duty. The only difference between them is the finish. The Carbide finish on the installation kit you have reference, # C16448-204, is more of a matte (not shiny) finish.
The other option is the Glossy finish, # C16448-104. As the name suggests it is shiny. Both of these kits are compatible with the Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, # C16245. This hitch has the more matte finish so if you w

- Will the Pro Series 25K Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Plate Fit a 2008 Ford F-450
- In order to determine if the Pro Series 25K Gooseneck Plate, # 49080, will fit your 5th wheel rails, you will need to take some measurements. This plate fits in Reese rails. Reese rails have 3 sets of mounting holes on the tops of each rail. This plate would use the slots that are the closest to together at 10 inches apart on center and 21-13/16 inches on center front to back.

- Weight Distribution Recommendation for a 2009 Ford F-450 with 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
- We do have 2 weight distribution systems that will fit a 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch receiver like the one on your 2009 Ford F-450. Both are rated for 1,000 to 1,700 pounds tongue weight. When calculating tongue weight you also want to include the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
Trailer tongue weight is typically 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. It seems that your trailer has a higher tongue weight percentage, about 16 percent. With your bike loade

- Firestone Ride-Rite Air Bag Suspension for a 2008 Ford F-450 Super Duty King Ranch
- For your 2008 Ford F-450 Super Duty, you can use the Firestone Ride-Rite System, # F2446, that you have referenced. The recommended single function compressor is # F2097. The single function indicates that it has one gauge and both air bags are inflated/deflated together. Based on your application, the single function would work well.
The compressors we carry are only rated for and tested with Ride-Rite systems, so I cannot say if they can be used for blowing out tractor radiators. The larges

- Gooseneck Installation Kit for a 2010 F-450 with 8 Foot Bed Crew Cab DRW 4 x 4
- The correct Gooseneck hitch and installation kit for a 2010 F-450 with 8 bed, Crew cab, DRW, 4 x 4, is the Reese Gooseneck, # 9460-49, or the Blue Ox Diamond Hitch Underbed Gooseneck, # DH1203.
I have linked an installation video of a Hide-A-Goose installation on a 2008 F-250 that should be similar to the installation on your F-450, but the install kit is different.
The Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck, # 9460-48 is not the correct installation kit for the F-450.

- Recommend Alignment Tool For Hitching Up My 2010 Ford F-450 To My Trailer
- The item you selected, Telescoping Hitch Aligner, part # JE00600, has strong enough magnets to attach to the hitch ball and trailer coupler, but since they are smaller and have less surface area, it would be easier to pull them off.
The item you referenced, Reese Hitch Aligner, part # 53410 does have bigger magnets and it would require more of a tug to pull them off. I would recommend part # 53410 as the points that you would line up are bigger.

- Is it Recommended to Shorten the Length of the Titan Hitch Extension for 2-1/2 inch Trailer Hitches
- Cutting the back of the Titan Hitch Box Extension for 2-1/2 inch Trailer Hitches, item # RP45018, off is not a concern as long as you leave at least 6 inches behind the center of the hitch pin hole, and you do not excessively heat the extension when cutting it off. You will also need to take the vehicle to the dealer to have the PCM ( powertrain control module) flashed to eliminate the fault code that will be displayed because the OEM brake controller is disabled.
