  • The metal thickness, or wall thickness, of the cross tube of Curt trailer hitch # C12005 is 1/4 inch. The brackets on the sides of the hitch are obviously thicker even than that, 3/8 if an inch or so. The thickness measurement can vary slightly because of the powder coating.   • The Truck Bed Stake Pocket Chrome Anchor Points # 92509 could potentially work for you depending on where you install them. The metal used to make the bed of your 1978 Chevy El Camino is likely not all that thick so you would need to be careful about how much force is applied to those anchor points. Out of the options we have these are the most likely to work. Tarps and push mowers would work fine. Heavier things like a riding mower would probably be too much stress.

  • The only trailer wiring that has been confirmed to work with your 1987 Chevrolet El Camino, is a hardwire connector kit like the Draw-Tite 4-Pole Hardwire Kit, # 18252. We do not have a plug in style that has been confirmed to work with your vehicle. Although the connector for another vehicle may look very similar, it has not been tested for use on the El Camino so there would be no guarantee that a it would work for you.

Drawbar number 36061, Hitch Ball 19258 (2 inch) or 19256(1-7/8 inch), a pin and clip and a 4-way wiring harness kit 18252 to hardwire your vehicle for towing. Alternatively if you happen to have an 8 foot stepside, the Craftec Tonneau Cover you will need is the # 251285.
