If your bike carrier budget is somewhere in the ballpark of a nice pair of jeans, Yakima offers the affordable CopperHead fork mount for roof racks.

Installation of the front of the CopperHead carrier is a matter of turning a few hex bolts, which reside under a cap on the plastic fork block. The cap is held in place by the lockable skewer,so once the skewer is locked, not only is the bike secured to the carrier, but the carrier is secured to the crossbars.

The front of your bike attaches quickly to the CopperHead fork mount with a lockable, quick-release skewer. Simply place the fork of the bike onto the skewer, tighten with the black knob, then snap the lever in place to secure - just like the skewer that holds your wheel onto the bike. The aerodynamic styling of the block provides extra stability.

The rear wheel of your bike is held firmly in place by a ratcheting strap. The ratcheting strap slides along the wheel tray to perfectly position for a variety of bike lengths.

The rear tray of the carrier is secured to the crossbar with a bracket and tightening hand knob (hex key). For additional security, The wheel tray can be locked to your crossbars by replacing the hand knob (hex key) on the bottom of the mounting bracket with a Yakima Accessory Lock Housing (Y07220), which requires purchase of an additional SKS Core.
CopperHead is not recommended for bikes with nutted front wheels, triple clamp forks, forks with dropout spacing - other than 100 mm - or disc brakes. Bike forks without safety tabs should also not be used with CopperHead. Safety tabs are small bulbs at the end of your fork, designed to hold the quick-release lever in place should the nut come loose.
The CopperHead is compatible with both round and square roof-rack crossbars. It is not recommended that you mount CopperHead on a factory roof-rack system.
