Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

We haven’t had any problems since ordering online with etrailer. I didn’t know anything, yet with the help of their knowledgeable and patient sales staff I had all my questions answered. I decided to size up and go with the next weight class because my RAV4 has a 6 cylinder engine and our Hiker trailer at just under a thousand pounds is our first camper. This way we’re all set in case we want to upgrade or we sell the vehicle it’s all set with a hitch that will tow at capacity. We can’t wait to get camping.

by:

installation was quite easy except for stringing the power line to the battery.

by:

Great trailer connector, the only issue I ran into was length of the ground wire compared to the videos product. I had to pick up some extra wire to lengthen it to a better spot of my vehicle from where it was mounted.

Trailer wiring kit was easy to install. Directions were easy to follow. My 2011 Rav 4 came with an accessory outlet in the drivers side rear panel right by the tail light assembly (see photo). The amperage max for the outlet was over what the lights on the trailer pulls so I spliced into the hot wire and drilled a ground connection nearby. My ATV hauler trailer lights work fine. My only complaint (and it is a small one) about the kit was that the wire lengths going to the other side of the car were BARELY adequate to reach even taking the shortest possible route The directions say to route the trailer plug wire out the door when used. I preferred to have the trailer plug mounted to the hitch rather than routed out the door. So I found a factory rubber drain plug grommet in the bottom of the rear storage area (where the spare tire goes if you don't have a rear door mounted tire like I do -- see photo). I took out the plug, cut a cross slit in it, cut the trailer wires and fed them through under the carpet, re-spliced the wires with wire connectors (and sealed them with dielectric grease to prevent oxidation) so that the splices occurred on the inside of the vehicle, sealed the rubber grommet with some black silicone and mounted the plug to the hitch with an angle bracket mount that accepts a standard 4 pin connector I got from the local U-haul dealer for $1.75(see photo).

This kit was a snap to install on my 2011 Toyota RAV4. It really was a "plug and play" installation!

I watched the installation video a couple times before beginning the installation, and also made sure I had all of the needed tools at hand before beginning the installation. For removal of the threshold inside the cargo area I gently used a small thin gauge pry-bar normally used to remove floor moldings.

Total installation time was 1.5 hours.

Instead of running the hot wire from the ModuLite up to the battery, I decided to make use of the handy 12-volt outlet plug already present in the cargo area.

The 12-volt outlet plug will indeed handle the amps/wattage of the ModuLite and the load to the trailer lights, with load to spare. (Also the existing circuit for the 12-volt outlet plug is already grounded and has a fuse.)

I attached the hot wire from the ModuLite to a 12V plug that had 10g wiring on it. I used the butt-connector from the kit to attach my 12V plug to the hot wire on the ModuLite. (I salvaged my 12V plug and wire from a 400 watt inverter that I no longer use.) 12V plugs with wiring can be purchased for around $4.00 from Radio Shack, Fry's Electronics, or your local auto parts and electronics stores.)

The 4-way flat trailer connector easily fit through the hole to drop down under the vehicle.

I highly recommend this kit - installing the wiring myself saved me over $100 dollars in labor and this kit is much better than the U-haul kit.

The part was easy to order, it came in a timely manner. I have a mechanic background so for me this was very easy to install. The Only thing that caught me off guard is the system only handles LED amperage. Not a big deal I'll change the lights on my boat trailer.

I've just finished my installation of my new hitch and wiring kit from etrailer.com and I couldn't be happier with the finished product. The instructional videos on the web site were spot on

by:

Easy install, everything included, and great instructional video. Worked out great for my RAV4.

Didn’t remotely fit. Contacted support, and they sounded super happy to help, so I sent them photos of the harness mismatch per their request. Heard nothing back after a week or two, so I contacted them again. They told me to send smaller photos and/or break them up into more emails so their mail server wouldn’t reject the message. I did that, never heard anything back. Then, some time later, they contacted me for a review. I told them the product didn’t work and their support sucked. They refused to refund or return as it had been more than whatever many days. Then a year later I get this request for a review. Well, here ya go: product didn’t work and support was zero help. They didn’t stand behind their product.

I sincerely apologize that you have not received the support that has been needed. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you so that we can get to the bottom of what is happening. I do know that accessing the tail light connector does take work to reach. Take a look at the video that we have on 2011 Toyota Rav4 and look at timestamp 1:15 to see where the connector is located.

2009 Toyota RAV4

Received my hitch, trailer tire, and wiring kit for our 2009 Rav4 this afternoon about 1:30. Because I had already checked out the installation process on he etrailer website. Everything went just as indicated so it was no problem. One pre-drilled and tapped hole in the frame was a bit rusty but I was also prepared fo that and I used a toothbrush with WD4 to clean the threads then chased that with one of the old bolts so not to mess with the threads of the new bolts. Believe me, etrailer has this stuff already figured out and there are few to no "unexpected" surprises. This was the 3rd etrailer hitch I've installed and all have proven to be very easy.

by:
Toyota RAV4

Perfect Fit. Everything went together great everything lined up. Had the hitch installed in about 20 minutes and the wiring done in about 45 minutes as i had to take interior panels apart to get it to where i wanted the wire coming out.
Have not installed the Transmission cooler as of yet but it will be this weekend. Bought the biggest one i could get as my year of Rav4 was known for Transmission Failure. Luckily I have very Low Mileage.

by:

The website and transaction was easy to accomplish. The products arrived as advertised. Damage to the boxes without product damage. The prices are excellent. Good customer service. Have not installed the products yet.

Good product with helpful instructional installation videos.

by:
2012 Toyota RAV4

the wire from module to passenger side tail light needs to be 12 inches longer, and the 4 pin connector does not fit into the hole to lead out to your hitch.

by:

Haven’t had one single problem. Relatively easy to install the hitch. Suggested preferred routing of the wires to the battery would be helpful for people who have lost the auto-mechanic touch ;)

by:

I enjoyed our conversation when I ordered the harness . Thanks for all your help.

It works perfect. Couldn't be any simpler to install. The customer rep is amazing!

Amazing hitch. never any problems. I use it many times weekly. Ive hauled many trailers, with near 3000+ lbs. works great! thanks etrailer.

Easy instructions to follow and great fit. Would definitely buy again.

Ok! Here's the deal , my Lady friend and I are off to the famous White Mountains of N. H. . I was pressed for time to get this device the UPS truck came around 7:30 pm 8/12/2019, up this Am at 5:00, put the Toyota rav4 . on 4 ramps that I welded that are 28 inches tall the interior was removed last week,, ready to go. Once I had everything I needed for installation, it took me the longer end of 43 minutes, another 12 minutes to replace the interior, this 2012 rav4 only has 39,000 miles on it and I tow my 10 foot long, x 6.6 feet wide x 6 feet tall self made camper mini, more fun than my Prevost Liberty ,
Now! I will be putting this device to the test extensively, I did not use the MICROSCOPIC Tie Straps, I inserted the black wire in DOT air line as extra jacket, future snaking of wires, tied to perfection. I coupled the Flat connector to a mating flat connector running white, brown, green yellow wires into my 6 pole round bumper connector socket. With extra wire ( orange) for Led backup lights. SO! both male n female flat connectors are neatly tucked, bundled in the rear left panel. All works spectacular in the driveway. Longevity. WOULD I recommend this ( these devices) Reckon a big YES for now, in time perhaps I would be interested in re review, As for service , Sir Robert S. Performed as a professional putting my order together by phone, I paid for faster delivery by UPS. As for warranty? You would have to ask etrailer,
The product Tekonsha T-one, I have for many years used this brand name .
My next project is getting electric brake components for this little trailer Though I don't really need them . YET. BOTTOM LINE, I AM VERY HAPPY now I have proper lighting, simple simple install. So simple that I bet my "HOSS" that was watching could do it. Enough said, A Sincere Thank You Sir. Robert S.

2010 Toyota RAV4

This is my third hitch+wiring harness combination from etrailer. The price was right, the shipping was prompt and customer service is great. The harness was complete and simple to install. The video instructions make it almost fool proof. The hard part is to route the 12v wire from the battery. I chose the under-the-car method as described in the video. Unless you are very small, plan to use a rack or as least lift the rear and then the front using ramps. Finding a good route for a wire that can carry that much current under the car is not an easy task and should be given considerable thought. I did it and I am satified, but it took a couple of hours and a lot of rolling around in the driveway to get a route that I liked. I wish there was also a video showing how to route it through the body interior.

2007 Toyota RAV4

Installed a trailer hitch and light wiring kit on a '07 Rav4. The weld nuts were rusty and dirty. This caused me the most problem. The instructions were easy to understand and very helpful. Had to do a little bending to get the holes to line up. This is common for a weldment. The electrical instructions were excellent and easy to understand. Somewhat difficult to route the wire to the battery. Easier if I had a hoist. Do have to use the shifter over ride for some reason. I suspect something in the electronics. Dealer should be able to help.

Product worked well, finding the connector inside the Toyota was a bit of a challenge but with the help of your video, mission accomplished. Would suggest using red wire instead of black for a power lead. Vey happy with the harness.

I purchased a trailer hitch and necessary wiring from you about a year ago and then again a couple months ago for a different vehicle – Your products were just fine, arrived in good time (as a matter of fact, early ) and installed on the vehicles perfectly. Thanks for your good service, products and your follow up.

Yes, installation of the T-One Wiring Harness, item # 118412, will be essentially the same on the 2011 RAV4 as it is on the earlier year models like the ones in our videos, and in the instructions, see links. The only difference may be accessing the rear of the tail lights, for connection of the wiring harness. Since the vehicle design has changed a bit, the interior panels may have changed some and removing them may be slightly different. We have not had the opportunity to install wiring...
