Fifth Wheel Sliders are used on short bed pickups to prevent damage to both
the truck and trailer when maneuvering in tight locations and at low speeds.
When pulling a fifth wheel trailer, the king pin needs to be in front of the
rear axle. On short bed trucks, the trailer is closer to the cab of the
truck so on sharp turns the trailer could actually come in contact with the
truck cab. The slider provides a greater turning clearance by moving the
king pin farther back to the rear of the truck when maneuvering at low speeds
around camp sites etc, providing a greater turning clearance.
