Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Product is well made. It aligned perfectly with the holes in my Mustang GT. You will need assistance to install, one to hold hitch while other person pulls the wires and bolts thru frame and hitch.
Also shipping was quick.

Still working well not a single problem.

by:

Hitch installed well. Took Approx. 2 hours on my garage floor. What they don't tell you is you will need to open the frame rail holes larger to accommodate the hardware. Original factory holes are way to small. A drill and a metal hole saw got it done. From there the hardware goes in smoothly. I could only lower the right side muffler so it was a bit awkward but the hitch isn't even noticeable on the car. Fit and finish are very nice. I installed it with no assistance.

This is the 4th hitch I have gotten from etrailer and all have been excellent with easy installs. Watch the video's, adapt what you can and good luck. The pic has the hitch cover installed, like I said you can't even see it.

Shipped to me very quickly, securely boxed. It's a Drwa-Tite, so I'm sure it's top quality. I haven't installed it yet but don't foresee any problems, and there is a video produced by etrailer on [online] for my car- 2008 Mustang. Customer service with some questions I had before placing the order was great-- responding to me quickly on a weekend night. Thank you.

Ive gotten a lot of use out of this! Ive towed several motorcycles, including my Harley, a couple thousand miles behind my Mustang, using a lightweight Kendon trailer. Easy install, perfect fit.

I got this for a bike rack and it works great! I didn’t think I would do a good job getting under my car to install it so I took it to my local mechanic and they got it on in maybe an hour and a half. Note that because the mustang is low, the bike rack scrapes my driveway on the way out if I don’t go out kinda sideways.

The trailer hitch was exactly what I needed for my 2006 mustang gt convertible. It was hard to find a trailer hitch for my car, until finally I found this one. So very happy and satisfied with the fitment.put it on myself,it took a few hours.good product, I recommend this trailer hitch for all convertible mustangs.

by:

Everything arrived as promised. Had a local shop install the hitch, which went on "without a hitch" (couldn't help the pun). Using this for my high-end bike rack and thus far it is performing as I expected.

2007 Ford Mustang

I purchased a hitch for a 2007 Mustang. My car is a GT convertible with a 4.6 liter V8 and dual exhaust. The hitch arrived sooner than promised, five stars for that. Instructions are clear and simple. I did watch an installation video prior to purchase so I had an idea of what I was looking g at. The installation was easier than I expected. The instructions indicated that I would have to drop the exhaust on both sides but to my surprise no removal was required on the drivers side. My only request would be that a second replacement exhaust hanger bolt be provided for the passengers side due to the fact that I used the one provided to replace the bolt that installs in to the bottom bracket hole on the rear most hanger and I would like a longer than original length bolt to reinstall into the inboard hole of the same bracket. The reason for this request is that with the hanger reinstalled it is stacked on the hitch frame and the OEM bolt isn't penetrating the nut in the frame by very many threads. I did have to open up the holes in the bottom of the car frame to allow the bolt heads and spacers to pass through on their way to the mounting holes. No modification was required to the hitch whatsoever.
I will be moving to a new home over the next several months and will use the car to tow a small enclosed trailer each trip we make.
I would recommend this company,'s product in a minute and their customer service is A plus, they even answer on Sunday afternoons.

by:

I got this hitch for a bike rack and its excellent. Installation was a breeze, maybe 30 or 45 minutes. Although I do have access to a lift, it's still not bad. I didn't take the mufflers off, just took the bolt holding the rear hanger out to drop it slightly. Hardly noticable when nothing is on it too. Anyway, solid hitch.

2008 Ford Mustang

It fit perfect, did NOT have to do anything extra to make it fit, very happy and have bought from them before and sure I will again, very happy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by:

More than the hour stated for in installation but over all a very good experience, YES, I did it myself !
Heavy construction with perfect fit. I like the attention to details, no surprises. And definitely the right price!

by:

I installed the hitch myself and found that reading the reviews and checking out the pictures on the website were very helpful if not completely necessary. As in the other reviews, I would say that the instructions are not great. One other suggestion would be to provide a bolt to fit for the muffler hanger instead of asking to bend the hanger or expand the hole. Another suggestion would be to use jack stands to hold the hitch in place for installation. Doing that worked out great for me. The product seems solid and I'm looking forward to using it to haul my bike around!

by:

The hitch and wiring is great quality. The problem was in the lack of instruction in English for the hitch and no instructions for the wiring. There was a few wiring connectors missing also. I have installed 5 of these hitches so the mounting was not an issue for me. Might be for the first timer. For the wiring, I had to go on line to verify the wiring colors. A bit inconvenient for sure. I have conversed with a representative from the company about these issues.

We have 2 e-trailer bike carriers for our Mustang Convertible and Hona Accord. One bike carrier is 7 years old and the other 1 year old. We are very happy with both. I highly recommend e-trailer bike carriers and their customer service. They made sure we purchased the correct bike carriers for both autos.

I installed this on my show car for pulling my miniature Mustang car hauler trailer. It was very easy to install and works well. I would buy again. There is a Youtube video on how to install which was helpful. :)

by:
2005 Ford Mustang

Fortunately for me I have aftermarket mufflers which are smaller than stock. That made installation much easier. I only used about 20 foul words during install. That’s about 30 less than average. I only had to unbolt the passenger side muffler brackets and I cut off the lower part of the rear muffler bracket so I simply bolted the hitch on and then bolted on the bracket and done. I never used the fishing wire trick, but it worked great and I had no trouble getting the carriage bolts in the holes. This is my 3rd drawtite hitch for various cars and I am very pleased with the product.

by:
2006 Ford Mustang

I will have to say that you thought of everything when designing this. It fit in great. The only issue I had was that I removed the muffler rather than bending the existing bracket or boaring out a hole. Ended up taking closer to three hours to install because of this. Very difficult to finagle the muffler back on once the reciever was in place. This is just the nature of the space available in the rear of a Mustang. My vehicle is a 2006 GT with no California package. Also, the wire leads used to feed the bolts into the tube worked better than I would have ever imagined. Delivery was within a couple of days. Asked a couple of questions on line from etrailer before ordering and got excellent prompt feedback from them.
I would have given this top rating but the 1-1/4 inch reciever was so snug that I had to file the inside out a bit in order to mount the bike rack.

by:
2005 Ford Mustang

This was a little confusing as to the muffler. I never got instructions with the hitch and on You Tube I only saw installation on a GT, not the 6 cylinder I have. This item does fit perfect though.

The Draw-Tite Sportframe Receiver Hitch that I ordered arrived in a timely manner, as promised. It fit on my Mustang, perfectly. I was amazed out how well it fit, especially after a professional trailer hitch installer, in my home town, said it couldn't be done. I would recommend the folks, and their products, at etrailer.com to anyone who needs the correct fitting towing package for their particular vehicle. They were polite and courteous, and know their customers needs.

2005 Jeep Wrangler

Great experience with e-trailer.com all around. Ordering was simple, and trailer hitch (Draw-Tite) was delivered as described by UPS in a fail-safe packaging.

I sold my Jeep Wrangler and had an old Mustang as a back-up for light trailering but no hitch. Went on your website, saw the application for the 05 Mustang and ordered the hitch. Around 100 bucks with free shipping. Saved about 125.00 from big box auto stores locally.

Also, the follow-up communications regarding order receipt, shipping, and date of delivery was most reassuring. You guys do it right. I'll certainly recommend or buy your available products without question. Thanks for a great on-line buying experience.

2008 Ford Mustang

This DrawTite hitch was very difficult to install. It had to be installed by a 3rd party. We had wanted the Curt model for the 2008 V 6 Mustang; however, etrailer was out of stock. The Curt model did appear to be easier to install. I would not recommend the DrawTite model for a 2008 V6 Mustang unless you want it installed by an auto shop.

2013 Ford Escape

The product is not at fault, it's my lack of experience and the correct tools for the job. Pay attention to the directions where it tells you to drill 3/8" out of the muffler bracket. I drilled the wrong side out. Stupid mistake. So once I got the hanger back on the holes wouldn't line up. Getting the hitch bolted on at the same time you're trying to get the hanger in place is a challenge. The right tools would be a lift and pneumatics for the tight spaces. So, its now 7am and I'm sitting in a [rental trailer provider] parking lot hoping to get them to tighten the carriage bolt I can't reach.

by:

It is an excellent product. It fits the car very well. Steven C. was very helpful on the phone. The product arrived to my home very quickly. I recommend etrailer.com to anyone wanting to order a trailer hitch receiver. The only negative is that the instructions were a little too vague for a non-professional mechanic, but I'm sure that a seasoned mechanic would not have any problem with the instructions.

2007 Ford Mustang

Great looking product - Nice fit and finish. Install was a challenge on my 2007 Mustang GT. Major problem on rear muffler mount on the passenger side (drivers side was no problem). Had to drop the muffler to get the rear muffler hanger bracket installed after the hitch was in place. It might have been possible to install the rear bracket at the same time as the hitch was installed, but I was beyond that point when the support was to be installed per the instructions.

by:

hitch has a couple good scratches recd duting shipping (i assume). the pin holes are not 'true' so i cant get the pin through the receiver and the ball mount. i assume that's a mfg issue. now that i've gone through all the work to get it installed; i'm not going to bother trying to return it. i'll find a smaller diamter pin or make one of the holes larger.

shipping was prompt and the tracker was helpful.

2009 Ford Mustang

Hitch is an excellent fit to my 2009 Mustang GT! That said I found differences between my installation and the video. On the GT the right rear exhaust hanger must pass through the hitch frame, through a slot in the frame itself. The hanger bracket bolt hole has to be modified by enlarging the hole towards the outside end, not the inside per the video. Also the hitch mounting bolts must be torqued before the right rear exhaust mount is reinstalled because it blocks access to the hitch mount bolts

  • Availability of a 2-Inch Trailer Hitch for a 2005 Ford Mustang GT Convertible
Only 1-1/4 inch Class I trailer hitches are offered for your 2005 Ford Mustang GT because of the 1,000 maximum towing capacity of your Mustang. The Draw-Tite # 24747 is currently the most popular and will both V6 and V8 models. I would still double-check your owners manual to find out the towing and tongue weight specifications. You don't want to exceed the tongue weight because it could damage your vehicle. Please note that you can only use Class I accessories, such as bike racks, cargo...

  • Is Drilling Required To Install Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch On 2006 Ford Mustang?
That is correct. To install the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24747 you were looking at on to your 2006 Ford Mustang you will just need to enlarge the hole in the passenger side exhaust hanger. This makes it so that the hanger can be reinstalled after the hitch is in place. There is no drilling required in the actual frame of the vehicle. I went ahead and included a link to a video of showing the # 24747 being installed on a 2006 Ford Mustang for you to take a look at.

  • Compatible Trailer Hitch to Fit a 2006 Ford Mustang GT Convertible
Yes, the Draw-Tite Class I Sportframe Trailer Hitch, # 24747, is the confirmed fit for a 2006 Ford Mustang. The hitch has a 200 lbs tongue weight and 2000 trailer weight capacity and has a bolt-on install to the frame of the your car. No welding needed. This hitch has an 1-1/4 inch hitch opening, therefore, if you are looking for a hitch accessory, like a bike rack, you will need to make sure you find one that has a 1-1/4 inch shank.

  • Will the Draw-Tite Part # 24747 fit a 2008 Ford Mustang with Flowmaster Exhaust
While the Curt part # C11312 has not been tested to fit your 2008 Ford Mustang with aftermarket exhaust like what you have there is a chance it could still fit. If your aftermarket exhaust retains the factory dimensions and routing (or close to it) then it could work. I did a little research online and was able to determine that most people were able to install this hitch with aftermarket exhaust. • Availability of a 2 Inch Receiver Hitch for a 2006 Ford Mustang
The hitches available for the 2006 Ford Mustang are not available with a 2 inch hitch opening. The only option for carrying a 2 inch shank bike rack on the Mustang would be to use a Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 to 2 inch Trailer Hitch, item # HTAD. This adapter is not to be used for towing and will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch or vehicle whichever is lowest by 50 percent. This means that if the tongue weight capacity of the hitch and vehicle are 200 pounds then you will be limited...
