Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller Installation - Video
Tekonsha introduces PRODIGY one of the most advanced and intelligent approaches to trailer brake controls. PRODIGY requiring no manual leveling, is a technological breakthrough among inertia-activated brake controls. Equipped with a self-adjusting sensing device similar to the one used in guided-missile technology to allow for easy, flexible installation - from nearly horizontal to nearly vertical - the Tekonsha PRODIGY constantly adjusts itself to the position of the tow vehicle.
- Features:
-
- Applies power to the trailer brakes in proportion to vehicle's deceleration.
- No level adjustment necessary - it adjusts itself to varying terrain as you drive.
- Works proportionally in reverse - great for backing into tough spots.
- Digital display depicts voltage delivery to trailer during braking.
- Continual diagnostics check for proper connection, shorted magnet condition and much more.
- "Boost" feature gives users the ability to apply more initial trailer braking power when towing heavier trailers.
- Power-saving mode reduces drain on battery when vehicle is not in use.
- Unique pocket mount allows for flexible mounting options.
- The Prodigy, along with the Tekonsha Primus, offers a replacement pocket and wiring harness (sold separately) to move the controller easily from one vehicle to another
- Quick and easy disconnect feature allows user to remove and store the control when not in use.
- Rotary manual brake adjustment lever
- Limited lifetime warranty
- Specs:
-
- Dimensions: 3-1/8" (W) x 5-1/8" (L) x 1-3/16" (H)
- Made for up to four-axle trailer brake systems (8 Brakes)
- Can be mounted between 0 degrees (level) and 70 degrees
- Boost levels increase power up 0%, 13% and 25%
- Power saving sleep mode draws 3.6 milliamp
- Included pigtail wiring harness measures about 34" long
- Version 2.6
Typical Installation Instructions
- Required: For vehicles without brake control adapters.
- 20 amp. Circuit Breaker (9506P) for 2-4 Brake applications
- 30 amp. Circuit Breaker (38630) for 6-8 Brake applications

This brake controller rocks

I replaced a Reese Brakeman Compact with the Prodigy. No comparison. Prodigy is proportional and shows me the voltage being sent to the trailer. Braking is smoother and I have much more control over how the brakes get applied. I feel much safer towing now.

I tow a 30ft 5th wheel and a 6x12 work trailer. I like that it will let you if you have a trailer brake problem, like shoes worn out or a broken wire. Easy adjust for in traffic or on the freeway. Great all round controller.

I had never towed a trailer before and I knew nothing about trailer brakes before I bought the Prodigy. The installation is straightforward. Run power to the unit from battery through 30A breaker, hook into the brake switch wire, connect to ground (preferably direct to negative battery terminal) and one wire to the trailer connector. Calibration and setup is quick and easy. It can be mounted at an angle and does not need to be level or adjusted to level. Tells you what's wrong if something's not working. Braking is smooth and consistent, proportional to the vehicle. No tricky wiring or weird contraptions for reversing. Can be moved from one car to another with a replacement pocket and wire harness. I don't know how it could be much better unless it did the driving for you. My only gripe, and it's a very small one, is that the adjustment wheel you use to set the braking level can be a little touchy. This is a very good brake controller for only a little more than a time-delay or weight-driven type, so I don't know why you would even want one of those. Buy the Prodigy instead and get the best attributes of them all.
