Questions from Toyota Prius V owners about this Bike Rack

  • It is not likely that you will be able to get all 4 bikes on the roof of your 2014 Toyota Prius V, even if you alternate the directions. There is also the possibility that the combined weight of the bikes and carriers they are on would exceed the roof capacity (consult the vehicle owners manual or Toyota for the roof capacity). Three bikes are likely not going to be a problem though you may need to alternate directions. What I recommend is to put 2 bikes on the roof and...

Questions from Toyota Prius V owners about this Bike Rack

  • The Yakima fit guide does show the Yakima KingJoe Pro 3 Bike Rack, part # Y02625, as a fit on the 2012 Toyota Prius V with spoiler. We normally do not recommend a trunk bike rack on a vehicle with a spoiler unless the manufacturer recommends it. I am including a couple of pictures from the Yakima website of the KingJoe Pro 3 bike rack and how it attaches on the 2012 Prius V with a spoiler. If the spoiler on your 2013 Toyota Prius V is the same as the spoiler pictured on the...

  • For the Yakima trunk mount bike racks, because the glass hatch adapter is required for a 2012 Toyota Prius V, you are limited to 2 bikes, even if the rack holds 3. When the adapter is needed you must limit the rack to 2 bikes to avoid damaging the vehicle. For a 3 bike rack, you can use a Thule trunk mount, see link. I recommend the Raceway 3, # TH9002PRO. This rack uses 4 retractable cables instead of 6 straps to secure to the vehicle. The result is a bike rack that can be...

However, you should note that a lot of the weight of the carrier will be on the bottom feet of the carrier. It would not just be the spoiler bearing all of the weight of the rack and bikes. I checked with Yakima to make sure and they confirm that it should work. I attached a picture of this rack being used on...

  • Sounds like you are referring to the spoiler on the top of your 2013 Toyota Prius V as the visor. I checked with Yakima and the King Joe Pro 3 Bike Trunk Mounted Rack # Y02625 that you referenced is confirmed to fit your vehicle. You would want to route the straps over the top of the spoiler to hook them onto the top of the hatch.

Questions from Toyota Prius V owners about this Bike Rack

  • I do not have specific information about the Prius V model, but I can tell you that the owners manual for the regular Prius model states that Toyota strongly discourages having a hitch installed on the vehicle, which would seem to rule out a hitch mounted option. Although there are hitches available for the Prius and the Prius V, I would recommend reading and abiding by anything recommended in the owners manual. Toyota Prius V Hitch Bike Racks Questions

  • I would need to know how much each electric bike weighs to determine if you will be able to carry them on the 2015 Toyota Prius V. To use a hitch mount rack, which is going to be the only way to carry heavier bikes on a Prius, the hitch option I recommend is # 24847. This is a Class I hitch rated for 200 pounds tongue weight. The bike rack and hitch manufacturers all agree that more than 2 bikes should be carried on a rack installed in a Class I receiver.
