With our bike carrier secure to the vehicle well go ahead and go over a few clearance measurements to see how the bike carrier and this vehicle will fit together. Theres about 12 inches of ground clearance. The closest part of the vehicle to the closest part of the carrier is about two and a half inches from the vehicle at the rear bumper. With the platform folded up weve added about 15 inches to the overall length of the vehicle.

Now well go ahead and lift up the grey handle on the back of the platform to tilt the platform down and well measure from the cargo door to the end of the platform and well get a measurement of 31 inches. Now to load the bike, well unfold the mast, put the frame hook to the top of the mast and well undo the tray strap.

Today on this 2011 Ford Escape were going to do a test fit of part #: S63410 from Swagman, the Titan 4 bike carrier. A few things to know about this bike rack that it will work with inch and a quarter receiver hitches both class 1 and class 2. This will also work with 2 inch receiver hitches with the included spacer and thats what well be working with today. Well start off our test fit by installing the bike rack into the hitch, then well go ahead and tighten down the anti-rattle bolt and put the safety clip on the other side. Following that well go ahead and get some clearance measurements. From the bumper to the bike rack our clearance is going to be 10 inches.
Yakima ForkLift Roof Mounted Bike Rack Review - 2002 Ford Escape

Today on our 2002 Ford Escape we're going to be test fitting the Yakima Forklift Roof Mounted Bike Carrier, part number y02098. Our Escape is equipped with a full factory roof rack so we're going to mount our Forklift directly to the factory crossbars. To do this we'll remove the skewer from the head of the bike rack first.We'll open up the clamp at the head of the bike rack and fit it around our crossbar then we'll tighten it down with the T-bolt and wing nut. Next we'll slide the cover back into place and then we can reinstall our skewer. At the back we'll need to slide the clamp over our rear crossbar and again we'll tighten it down with a T-bolt and wing nut. Now we're ready to load our bike.We'll pick our bike up and place the wheel into the wheel tray and place the front fork down into our skewer.
Thule Domestique Roof Bike Rack Review - 2002 Ford Escape

Today on our 2002 Ford Escape we're going to be test fitting the Thule Domestique Roof Mounted Bike Carrier, part number th513. To mount the carrier to our roof rack we'll set it up on top of our load bars. We'll fit the head of the bike rack over our front load bar. We'll fit the bottom clamp around the bottom of our load bar and use the included Allen key to tighten down the Allen head bolts.At the rear of the carrier we'll fit the clamp around our rear load bar and use the Allen key to tighten it down as well. Once we've done that we can take our skewer and reinstall it. Now our bike rack is loaded and we're ready to load.
Swagman Fork Down Roof Bike Rack Review - 2002 Ford Escape

Today we have a 2002 Ford Escape and we're going to be test fitting the Swagman Fork Style Roof Mounted Bike Carrier, part number s64710. Our Escape is already equipped with the full factory roof rack so we're going to go ahead and attach our fork down directly to our factory crossbars. We'll place the bike rack up on top of our crossbars. At the front we'll fit our two U-bolts around our crossbars and use the wing nuts to secure the front of the bike rack.Next we'll move to the back of the bike carrier, fitting the U-bolt through the carrier from the top. We'll take the clamp and the two wing nuts to clamp around the bar from the bottom. With that done our bike rack is secured and we're ready to load up our bike.

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, well be test fitting the Yakima Forklift Roof Mounted Bike Carrier, part number y02098. Now to begin our test fit well place the bike carrier on top of our crossbars, making sure that the head of the bike rack is over our front crossbar. Well take our rear mounting point, make sure that the plastic clamp goes underneath the rear crossbar, bring it around, put the T-bolt through the clamp, and secure it with the wing nut. With that, well move back to the head of the bike rack where well put the clamp underneath the crossbar, bring it up and using the T-bolt well secure the front clamp to the front crossbar. After making sure everythings tight well slide the plastic cover forward and run our skewer through. Well then attach the screw on the other side of the skewer in preparation for loading our bike.

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, well be test fitting the Thule Domestique Roof Mounted Bike Carrier, part number TH513. Now with our Thule Roof Rack System already assembled onto our vehicle, well set the carrier onto the crossbars now we can use the Allen key to tighten them both down. Note that, in order to tighten down the front part of the carrier you must remove the skewer first. It is important that the carrier is perpendicular to the crossbars and parallel to the vehicle to insure that the brackets have the proper fit onto the crossbars. Once the brackets are tightened down and secure to the vehicle, we are ready to load our bike. We will undo the cradle strap at the rear and insert the skewer into the front of our bike rack.

Today, on our 2013 Ford Escape, we'll be test-fitting the Rocky Mounts Tie Rod Stretch Roof-Mounted Bike Carrier, part number RKY1011. Now, with our roof rack system already assembled and installed on the vehicle, we'll set the carrier onto the crossbars. It is important that the carrier is perpendicular to the crossbars and parallel to the vehicle, to ensure that the brackets have a proper fit onto the crossbars. We'll bring the rubber-coated steel straps around the underside of the front crossbar, and hook them into position. We'll then move to the rear of the carrier, where we will loosen up the bracket, swing it around the underside of the rear crossbar, and use the included Allen key to tighten it down. We'll then move back to the front, where we will again use the included Allen key to tighten down the straps and secure the bike carrier to the vehicle.

Today, on our 2013 Ford Escape, we'll be test-fitting the Rocky Mounts Pitchfork Roof-Mounted Bike Carrier, part number RKY0438. Now, with our roof rack system already installed onto the vehicle, we'll set the carrier onto the crossbars. We'll take the front black cap off the front of the carrier, and loosen up the Allen bolts with the included Allen key. Note that you can not loosen up the Allen bolts without taking out the skewer. We'll loosen up the bracket, then swing it onto the crossbars and tighten it down. We can then put the black cap back in place, and move to the rear of the carrier, where we will loosen up the bracket, swing it around the rear crossbar, and tighten it down.

Today we have a 2009 Ford Escape and were going to be test fitting the RockyMounts Tie Rod Roof Mounted Bike Carrier, part number RKY1014. Now our escape is equipped with a fold roof rack from the factory so were going to mount our tie rod directly to the factory crossbars. Well set the tie rods into place up on top of the crossbars. At the front of the bike rack, well take our rubber coated steel straps and feed them around the front crossbar securing them back into the head of the bike carrier. Well take an Allen wrench and tighten down the straps. With the straps in the front secure we can reinstall our cover and well also make sure that our skewer is unlocked and open.

We can then tighten down the straps to secure the carrier to the vehicle. We will then use Yakimas included strap loop to secure the excess strap. To begin our test fit well set the carrier onto the vehicle and use the levers on the left and right side of the carrier to adjust the size of the carrier to fit the cargo door accordingly. You will need to adjust the carrier to make sure that the cradle arms are level or slightly angled up. Once we have determined this position onto the vehicle well clamp down the levers and put the top strap to the top part of the trunk, the side straps to the side part of the trunk below the taillights and the bottom straps to the bottom part of the trunk. Well then tighten it down to secure the carrier to the vehicle. Now with the carrier secured to the vehicle were ready to load our bike.
