I do not recommend using an extender because doing so will cut the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. A longer dual purpose ball mount is not available. What I recommend is a different type of bike rack. You could use a towing bike rack like # S64955 and a super extra long ball mount # 80232. With this set up, from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rack should measure 7-7/8 inches, which should clear the back of your 2012 Chevy Traverse.

Will Curt Mulitpurpose Ball Mount fit a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse
This ball mount requires a hitch with a 2 inch receiver opening, so make sure you have a 2 inch opening on your Traverse. To make sure the top receiver clears your bumper, measure from the hitch pin hole straight out to see how far out the bumper sticks. As long as this measurement is less than 5 inches, the Curt D210 should fit.

I went out to the warehouse and measured ball mount 2923. It is 4.75 inches from the pin hole to the weld. We do have drawbars that could clear the bumper and license plate face. For example, drawbar 2736 is 7 inches from the pin hole to the weld. This may give you the clearance you need. It is a different design and a capacity of 5,000 lbs, but can get the job done for you.
