Today we are going to install hitch part number 82641 on a 2008 Chevy Colorado, and this hitch also fits models from 2004 through 2007, as well as 2004 through 2008 GMC Canyon. On the side of the frame we need to remove this rear-most bolt that attaches the bumper and bracket to the frame. And on the bottom, on pre-2008 models there are actually going to be two logistic holes here. On this 2008 model, there is actually a weld nut with a bolt into here, which we are actually going to take out, and we will be using this hole as well. We need to do that on both sides of the frame.
Okay, with the bolts removed out of the frame, we want to go ahead and put the carriage bolt and block into the frame. And I am going to go through this hole here. And we actually want to use the fish wire that they provided. We want to feed it through the hole at the bottom of the frame and then run it out through the side access hole. Then we want to put the block on and then wrap the threads of the bolt with the bolt leader here. This allows us to pull the bolt and the block through the frame. And for pre-2008 models that have the secondary hole here, we want to do the same thing as well. But we want to make sure that the blocks do not overlap inside the framework, and we need to do this on both sides of the frame. I do want to make mention here that, again, on models before 2008 where you have both holes and not the weld nut, the block alignment is critical.
Okay, with the hitch loosely installed here on the frame, I am going to go ahead and put the existing fastener that we took out earlier back into the frame. Then we are going to go over here to the side of the frame and install the fastener here. We want to make sure we put the 1/2 inch block in between the hitch and the frame. And we want to use the 14-mm hardware that they provided in the installation kit. Now we want to attach all fasteners on both sides. Now that we have got all the fasteners loosely installed, the next step is to tighten them down and then torque them to their specifications. The 1/2 inch fasteners here at the base of the frame are going to be torqued to 75 foot-pounds and the 14-mm fastener on the side of the frame gets torqued to 85 foot-pounds. And now that we have got all the bolts torqued down, the installation is complete. This concludes the installation of hitch part number 82641 on a 2008 Chevy Colorado.

quick and easy installation Order on Monday, paid additional $7.49 shipping for 2-3 day UPS express, recieved the hitch on Wednesday. This was installed on a 2004 Colorado Crew Cab 4X4. Installation was a breeze and the hitch was a perfect fit. Installed in less than an hour, and that was at a very slow pace. I would recommend that both bumper mounting bolts be loosened in order to make it easier to fish the bolt and metal bracket through the frame rails. Just loosen both bolts(don't remove them) that support the bumper, fish the new bolts through and then tighten and torque the front bolt and remove the rear bolt.1944
